2 weeks in Grafenau

A very comfortable hotel with a very helpful staff. The rooms are very traditional without many of the “modern” contrivances of many big city hotels. But this is not a big city so it’s perfect. I just wish for more pillows in the room.

Pleasant guesthouse

We booked 2 double rooms and both were good. Rooms have basic furniture but beds were comfortable & rooms were quiet. Note: WiFi did not work in either bedroom. Breakfast was basic but adequate ( juices, coffee/tea cheeses, ham, fresh rolls, and boiled eggs). Guesthouse has seating outside which would be nice place to sit on summers evening.

Dinner on the terrace

While staying in Grafenau for holiday, we - family with 3 kids - decided to eat out in the evening. Grafenau central place has some quite nice places to eat, all with a terrace surrounding the main street. This hotel also seemed like a good place, maybe bit more expensive since the restaurant is linked to a hotel, but anyway the menu looked good. No complaints about the waitress, she was very helpful although she spilled some fries in the neck of one of the kids. Small accident, she apologized right away, very sincere, and offered replacement dish. Good service. However, when trying to pay for the meal, I offered my MasterCard (I would expect a hotel accepts credit cards...). First try failed. Reason was that only EC cards would work... The waitress was still helpful but needed to ask the manager for help. We offered to try the MasterCard of my wife, but the manager bluntly refused that "since it is not an EC card, so it's no use to even try", and she promptly left to the kitchen. She left us there standing, with the waitress getting red cheeks... Totally unprofessional and no service at all. Finally we managed to pay in another way, but the attitude of the manager was beyond words. Coming back on the EC card thing, this type of card has been replaced by Visa and MasterCard in Europe already quite some time. I would expect that a hotel would at least be able to let non-Germans pay by common acceptable credit cards.

Nice hotel for visiting the Bayerischer Wald area

We stayed in this hotel for two nights.
The room was big, with a nice bed and a lot of windows. The room was at the side of the building, so very quiet. The ensuite bathroom is small, but well equipped and clean.
The breakfast was perfect! Lots of choices, nice bread, eggs, fruit and selfmade yoghurt.
The hotel also has a nice restaurant with terrace on the main road of Grafenau. It's a bit noisy, but there is a lot to see. The food is very good for a good price.
A perfect hotel to visit this area and enjoy the German hospitality.

Wohlfühlen in der Ortsmitte bei freundlichem Service und hervorragendem Essen

Das Hotel liegt direkt in der Ortsmitte, zu den kostenfreien Bussen zu Bergtouren und Ausflügen ins Umland sind es nur ein paar Schritte (kostenlose P-R Parkplätze inklusive).
Der Service war immer klasse und herzlich, die Zimmer sind sauber und nicht zu klein, eine Dachterasse lädt mit Sonnenstühlen ein und erspart Rauchern den Gang nach unten.
Das Frühstücksbuffet mit knusprigen Bäckersemmeln und Broten, Aufschnitt, frischem Rührei, täglich selbstgenmachtem Obstsalat, Müsli, mehreren Honig- / eigenen Marmeladesorten (ein Glas haben wir sogar am Schluss geschenkt bekommen!) - lässt keine Wünsche offen. Platz war in den großzügigen Gasträumen auch während der Pandemie jede Menge.
Das Restaurant ist mit Abstand das beste am Ort für alle, die eine kreative (z.B. selbstgemachte Nudelsäckchen mit Birne und Gorgonzolasauce) wie auch bodenständige regionale Küche (Schweinebraten, Hirsch, Schitzel, Fischgerichte) schätzen. Wenigstens einmal sollte man sich auch eine Nachspeise gönnen.
Wir haben eine sehr entspannte und angenehme Woche hier verbracht und sind rundum zufrieden.
