250+ years of experience in hospitality, and it shows!
Since 1756, this inn has been in business just outside the center of Holzminden. And the hospitality is still there as of old. We were upgraded to a modern, spacious room with a terrace. Nice and sleek design, good lighting choices and a delicious shower. Good chairs, everything new and clean. Slept wonderfully as well. The room is equipped with everything. You do have to fill the fridge yourself and there is a kettle but otherwise no tea or coffee. And also no information if you can get that somewhere. There is a candy & snack machine and a drinks machine in the hotel.
The rooms are in two modern annexes. The reception is in a modern addition built over the stream that flows past the old inn. Then again, the breakfast room and restaurant make sense in the old inn. But even those rooms are quite modern in design. Breakfast itself is extensive with plenty of choice and tasty breads and cheese. Nothing overdone, but certainly lavish (and included in the price).
The manager/owner is a tremendously cordial man who has a good eye for everything. The hotel receives many cyclists who do the Weser route. It is a top place for that (even if you come by car). In fact, one of the best and most beautiful places/buildings in Holzminden.

Hotel with history and views of the industrial district
Hotel Hellers Krug is well attuned to cyclists. The wheels are parked in a secure, simple shed. There were also sufficient charging facilities for us.
The hotel itself consists of a historic building with modern annexes and a modern annex. The Service was very friendly and informative about the city of Holzminden and the Weserradweg.
We had a clean and nicely decorated room in the annex with a beautiful view of the industrial buildings of Symrise. The rooms have to be completely darkened during the day, because in the evening you can no longer get the heat out of rooms.
A buffet breakfast is served in the historic building. Overall a little easier, but perfectly sufficient for us.
During our visit there were reconstruction works and the grounds seemed a little untidy, which did not leave a good impression on us visually.
Only 3 stars in our view.

Not good value for money
We stayed here as part of a bike tour and had a double room comfort with balcony in the annex for 136 €. The hotel is located outside the city centre, the associated restaurant is permanently closed. On arrival we wondered about the mess in the reception area and there was no one there either. After some back and forth, we found a young woman in the kitchen who issued us room cards. We could store the bikes in a lockable bicycle room. The room was quite small, on the balcony 2 chairs, no table. There is a small fridge, but it was empty. There is a self-service refrigerator in the reception area. On the price list it is pointed out that there is a CHARGE OF 1€ per glass - we have never seen anything like this! The breakfast was fine, but the ingredients from baked-on rolls to orange nectar were more in the very inexpensive segment. All in all not good value for money!

Great hotel, hosts as it should be
A very warm and friendly welcome. The hotel owner immediately gave us tips on how to find a good restaurant, as his restaurant was closed on Sunday.
Even after we didn't have much success with the restaurant reservation, he continued to give us tips. Very rich and good breakfast, nothing was missing. The rooms in the annex are spacious, with lots of glass and very comfortable beds. All amenities are available in the room.
Bicycles in the locked room, which was a bit cramped for the many bicycles.
When we left, he himself suggested taking a photo of us and also gave us a tip for a nicer cycle path towards the Weser.

Nice little hotel in the German countryside
This is a historic German hotel in the nice town of Holzminden. It is a small hotel consisting of two buildings. One is a little more modern then the other.
I had a room in the less modern building. There is no elevator, so hauling luggage up the flight of stairs was tiring. My room was very typical by European standards - very small but basically functional. It was very well lit and had nice natural light as well. A closet and shelf for your suitcase assisted in keeping the room tidy.
The beds are very hard. It is a wood slab with a foam mattress on top. While I like my bed on the harder side, this was really hard and I woke up with sore muscles. Also there is no thermostat in the room so you cannot control the temperature. It got cold in the room at night (though I like sleeping cold). And there is no air conditioning so I image the room will get very warm in summer. The rooms are older in the building I was in so the wear and tear is showing.
Service was outstanding. The proprietor was jovial and friendly and more than happy to help with anything you need. Breakfast was delicious and fresh each morning. One evening our group had an Italian night buffet dinner in the restaurant and it was terrific. Restaurant service is wonderful and friendly.
Holzminden is a lovely town and I very much enjoyed my visit.
