A Magical Christmas

I stayed at Hotel Schloss Hornberg for 6 nights over Christmas as part of an Albatross tour. What a truly wonderful hotel this is, situated above the town of Hornberg. It is a family run hotel and the owners’ enthusiasm for this place shines through. The staff are hard working, friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The room I had was on the second floor with views to the front of the hotel and the town. Beds were very comfortable and while the temperature outside was -3°C, the room was cosy and warm. Breakfast and dinner were included each day in the tour as was lunch on Christmas Day. The food was amazing! Most nights we had a 5 course meal and each course was well planned, well presented, beautifully cooked. varied and delicious. Buffet breakfast included a waffle maker which guests could use to make delicious waffles. The grounds are large with a medieval tower and chapel situated on them. There are many paths leading to stunning views. Children are well catered to outside with lots of wooden play equipment which would delight any child and stimulate their imagination. The only issues to be aware of are that there are no lifts (49 steps to the second floor) and if you want to visit the town of Hornberg, it’s quite a long walk (uphill on the way back). However, this should not put you off booking this hotel. I had a most magical time at the Schloss and I even experienced a white Christmas with snow falling on Christmas Eve. I would recommend this hotel for all travellers.

Unfortunately we felt uncomfortable

Unfortunately, we were not satisfied with several things here. One reason was black mold on both windows in the room.

very nice location, is something special

Hornberg Castle can be reached via a narrow car road or on the access for buses and motorhomes. Parking would be available in the courtyard, but frequently occupied. Outside, however, you can park on the access road.
We arrived without booking and could have the so-called tower room or a room with balcony in the main building. Our choice was tower room 27 in the separate building above the restaurant; overlooking the Neckar Valley and laid out on two levels. A rather small room and quite cool, but it offered a good quiet sleep.

THREE STAR DATED, BUT COMFORTABLE

Located in a panoramic position, near the ruins of a castle.
Three stars dated, but well maintained. Simple but clean and comfortable rooms. Good quality restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. Forgive her very courteous.
Warning: there are three floors without elevator!

Successful all round!

We had booked a castle weekend at 197 E per person. This is two nights in a superior room with a fantastic view of the valley. Large room with good bed, minibar (fridge), TV and bathroom, all very clean. This includes two more breakfasts (very good selection), a 3-course menu and the 4-course castle menu. Everything was well and freshly prepared.
Especially the Service and each:r individual staff:in were very accommodating and friendly.
You just have to know there's no elevator.
Overall, this is the epitome of a friendly family-run hotel, the likes of which unfortunately are becoming less and less common.
This has now been our Third party stay here and certainly not the last.
