Lovely traditional hotel. Very clean and the staff are very welcoming. The set menu was very tasty with a choice 2 starters and 3 main courses ( 1 meat. 1 fish. 1 veg option ). Swimming pool and faculties are good and beds very comfortable. Will be staying again.

You shouldn't expect too much

I booked a mother-daughter weekend through Kurzurlaub.de. It really started off very nicely, with ice-cold Riesling sparkling wine in the room and fresh fruit to eat.
At dinner, the table was very clean and nicely set, and we were served in a friendly manner by a gentleman. The food, however, was not what one expects from a 4-star hotel.. The vegetables were clearly frozen food service quality and tasted bland.
The roast beef, however, was very good, as far as I can judge, since it was my first time having it. :-)
There were 3 cocktails to choose from, which were also very creative and delicious.
Dessert was also very good.
What surprised me, however, was that the aforementioned roast beef on the 2nd day of the 3-course menu then went from being the main course to the appetizer and was "slipped" to us again..
I have never experienced anything like that before...
Well then.
In the evening in the room, I then had to put the desk lamp by my bed because I didn't have a bulb in the socket.. Well, in the socket above my bed, I mean :D ..
The breakfast....
So my greatest admiration goes to the modesty of the other guests who rate this breakfast here as excellent and "leaving nothing to be desired". The plates were partly poorly washed. Clean dishes are the least one can expect; even in a city hotel, that would be a no-go..
The service staff who were "refilling" the buffet were monotonous and barely approachable, which is why I then refrained from it..
Apart from the fact that one was pushed around at the buffet by retirees who were obviously afraid of missing out, the buffet itself was anything but good for me. Undercooked scrambled eggs, almost everything gone by 8:30, processed croissants,
The cold cut and cheese buffet covered with worn-out plastic wrap that had been pulled back and forth dozens of times, which didn't make the whole thing any more appetizing.
Only one single type of cereal to choose from, smeared jam jars in a service refrigerator, yogurt bowls with dried-out edges. Juices stood unlovingly in bottles in a corner. Fruit salad, fresh indeed, but all in all not appetizing either. Maybe it was also due to the overall situation that I simply lost my appetite..
My daughter didn't want to on the 2nd. morning at all to come down with me, so I went alone, since I cannot live without having had at least one coffee ;-) That was very good, by the way, since it came from a fully automatic machine.
The wellness area ...
The outdoor area was unkempt.
Leaves and plants from the adjacent forest were scattered on the ground. But it wasn't that tragic. Anyone expecting a spa atmosphere here should probably not book.. Everything was too cramped, and if you managed to snag a free lounge chair, you were lying shoulder to shoulder with complete strangers.
But what bothered me most was that the basic concept of rest and relaxation was not maintained, as the hotel marketed itself as family-friendly, which naturally brought with it the circumstance that families with children between 8 and 11 were also to be found there. Which turned the area more into a
children's fun pool than a quiet oasis. I spared myself from pointing out to the parents that the wellness area rules required them to keep their kids under control, because I know how that sort of thing ends... Well then.
The sauna area was bathed in dim light, which unfortunately made the beautiful Roman bathhouse ambiance appear almost unrecognizable. The area was also strictly clothing-free. Which is also quite normal for a sauna area! Unfortunately, people regularly came into the area to look around, and you were gawked at while in the sauna as if you were an animal attraction at the Cologne Zoo.
Conclusion: For a 4-500€ stay: The hotel is still family-owned, which is also proudly announced in pictures and a time capsule in the hotel.. However, they are trying to get as much as possible out of it here with very little investment.. Which is a real shame.. I think Corona also damaged this country and unfortunately broke the neck of this industry. I hope that the operators will still work on all these deficits and turn back to good quality.. Then I would also be happy to come back.. Special thanks go to the service staff member Meta Bunke! She served us on the 2nd evening and was an asset to our weekend with her refreshingly cheerful manner!

False promises - great nature

The hotel is fantastic but the management's treatment of guests is absolutely disappointing. We had ordered vegan breakfast for 2 people at Easter and were assured when booking. But the achievement was not met. Instead of accommodating us when addressing the problem, the management responded aggressively and pattifully that margarine, cucumber and cereal was enough and it was not in line with the hotel philosophy to offer vegan products anyway. We feel betrayed as guests as we were previously assured a full vegan breakfast and we do not feel appreciated as no form of reparation was offered nor accepted. Too bad about the nice hotel and the otherwise friendly staff in the Black Forest.

Was ok.

Rating: Mönchs Waldhotel
Overall impression: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
I liked it a lot (Positive)
Rooms & ambience: The rooms are very nice, bright and flooded with light. Especially the large balcony is a plus.
Facilities: The fridge in the room was already on and working perfectly.
Bathroom: Very spacious and comfortable due to the combination of bathtub and additional shower.
Potential for improvement (criticism)
Breakfast offer: In my opinion, the buffet is more like a 3-star standard and does not quite live up to the 4-star level of the house. There is a lack of choice or sophistication here.
Wellness area: There are clearly too few resting places in the sauna. Since the number of loungers is very limited, I was forced to rest in the room after the sauna session, which reduces the recovery effect in the spa area.
My conclusion
A house with very nice premises, but which still has room for improvement in the "soft skills" such as the service on the guest (breakfast) and the capacity in the wellness area.

It was okay.

Secluded hotel, ideal for hikers and peace seekers. Furnishing very old-fashioned, visible investment jam. Breakfast very good, dinner fantastic. Thanks to the kitchen! Service very good and helpful. Only the ladies at the reception could be a little nicer.
