Very pleasant stay
We stayed here for one night on our hiking tour on the Rheinsteig and felt very comfortable. The double room with a super modern bathroom on the upper floor has a wonderful view of the Rhine. The breakfast was good and plentiful. We would love to come back!

A little refuge on the Rhine
We often stay in Kestert when we are visiting the Rhine Valley but our usual hotel was fully-booked over the bank holiday weekend, and we were very fortunate to find a room at this little gem, where a friendly welcome awaited us.
When I say "a room" I am understating, because when we arrived, we discovered that we had been given a holiday apartment in the house nextdoor, and I cannot say enough good about it. It was far more space than we needed for a one night stopover, but everything was perfect.
The apartment has a decent-sized double room in which there is an extra fold-out bed big enough for one, a modern well-equipped kitchen-diner, and a bang up-to-date bathroom. If more of you are travelling together, there is also a small living-room that overlooks the river and in which there is a comfortable double sofa-bed.
From the moment we entered the apartment, we knew that the owners had paid a lot of attention to detail, from the fixtures and fittings to the decor. As for the bed, it is incredibly comfortable and fitted with good quality bedding, making for a good night's sleep.
We did get chance to look at rooms in the main building, and they too are well-equipped, two of them with a balcony.
Breakfast was in the main building and was more than ample, with a good selection of meat, cheese, yoghurt, jams and boiled eggs - and of course the German bread rolls.
Frau Dorn is very helpful and obviously cares for the well-being of her guests, in what is a family business that has been handed down.
A couple of notes: First of all, this is a pension and holiday apartments type of accommodation, so it does not have a restaurant. However, just a short walk and you are at Hotel Goldener Stern where, in my opinion, you will be served some of the best food on the Rhine. Secondly, on the map it looks as if Kestert is away from the "action" but it is well-served by trains, with the station just a few steps away.

Sehr herzliche Gastgeberin und tolle Unterkunft.
Wir hatten auf unserer Rheinsteig-Wanderung ein Dreier-Appartement im Dachgeschoss. Frisch renoviert und wirklich gut in Schuss.
Unsere Gastwirtin war sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich.
Wir konnten schnell ein erstes "Ankommensbier" organisieren und Betten und Dusche testen.
Alles tipptopp.
Mit guten Tipps konnten wir in Kestert (wo leider nicht gerade der Bär los war) aber noch einen Tisch für ein Abendessen organisieren. Danke für die Hinweise und Ratschläge!
Das Frühstück war super lecker und reichhaltig (die selbstgemachte Marmelade - Super!).
Mit frischem (und zwar wirklich *frischem*!) Obstsalat, richtig leckeren Brötchen, Toast, ... Alles dabei. Und super lecker.
Wir konnten uns für die nächste Wanderetappe noch ein "Jausepaket" basteln und bekamen sogar noch für unsere Etappe und den nächsten Abend ein paar richtig gute Tipps zum Einkehren.
Wirklich ein toller und herzlicher Aufenthalt.

Extrem nette Gastwirtin
Extrem nettes und familiäres Verhältnis zu guten Preisen, wenn ihr hier bucht macht ihr keinen beste Herberge in der Umgebung mit Abstand sehr gutes Frühstück und WLAN ist vorhanden perfekte Herberge für den Zwischenstopp beim Wandern

Saubere Unterkunft mit sehr bequemen Betten. Die Gastgeber sind freundlich.
Das Frühstück aber war nichts besonderes. Das hätte besser sein können, wenn es keine Aufbackbrötchen und keine Wurst aus der Packung sondern frische Ware gewesen wäre. Würde hier noch etwas nachgebessert, wären für mich sogar fünf Punkte drin.
Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmt trotzdem, und das zählt.
