Great hotel and even better Restaurant.

The hotel was really nice to stay especially for the price. Very clean and friendly staff. Parking is free. The restaurant is a must go for dinner. Homemade German food. The service was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. For me definitely a 4 star. Also the hotel is being renovated outside and shouldn’t be done by summer 2025.

Family-run hotel in traditional style

We booked this hotel spontaneously while passing through and were very satisfied. Friendly, guest-oriented owner family. Large, well-furnished room with balcony and view of the garden and forest. Tasty dinner in the cozy restaurant. Breakfast buffet that leaves nothing to be desired. Sufficient parking spaces. Mespelbronn Castle (a guided tour is worthwhile) is about a 10-minute walk away.

A fabulous family run hotel. The whole experience was a delight. Wonderful service, food and location what more could you ask. We will be back.

Nice restaurant, hotel a bit run down

I'm of two minds about zum Engel. On the one hand there's this very friendly staff and a nice restaurant with also friendly prices and then there's our room...
The room we got was overlooking the garden, which was nice. At the same time it was over the kitchen (at least the kitchen ventilation) as we were constantly in the smell of deep fried food once we opened the door to the balcony. Also the corridor and the room itself smelled musty and it was obvious that the latest maintenance was a long time ago. Stains in the carpet, mould in the shower stall, a defect reading light above the bed, a damaged bathroom door, a shower which alternated between scalding hot and freezing cold....
The restaurant was a pleasant surprise: good food at very decent prices. Also the breakfast was excellent.
Will I go back? There are plenty of good alternatives close by...
