Nice place, wrong hands

The view is great. The valley still, the light soft. A place with potential.
But what is called hospitality there is control in thin foil.
One is not received, but structured through.
Orders go wrong, corrections happen reluctantly, the food is convenience food, the drinks: warm, wrong, careless.
On the table is a sign explaining in detail why card payment is evil.
Not information, but justification.
You're taught, not served.
What you are looking for:
A little air, a little cake, a sense of welcome.
What you encounter:
– a boss who tends to be the guardian of a derailed pet enclosure
– a menu that sounds like dinner at the AfD regular table
– Chairs that signal you: Sit down, but don't get soft
– a payment system designed as an educational measure against modernity
– Cake that deserves the name “apple” only through flavorings
– and above all: the gentle radioactivity of passive-aggressive local pride
We're not sad because mistakes happen.
It's because you feel:
This place doesn't want to get any better. He just wants to hang in there.
A star. For the valley. The rest is standstill.

Why so unkind?

A few days ago we wanted to take a short break with coffee and cake during a nice hike. Since we had no cash with us, we were very pleased about the sign at the entrance with the information that you can pay both cash and debit. The cake was classic, the cappuccino a bit thin, but nevertheless we were satisfied until the time we wanted to pay by card.
We reacted in amazement when the waitress stressed out that we could only pay from 25 euros by card. Our offer that we could pay via PayPal or online banking was rejected. The waitress said unkindly that she had to ask. When she told her colleague that "he had no money with him" and wanted to pay by card, the colleague reacted loudly and audibly to us "and you can't ask beforehand!". When the waitress then came back after quite a while, we thought that we would normally have asked, but it would be informed at the entrance about the payment options, only the info with the 25 euros is missing and then you should write this down. The waitress then said puny that they didn't have to do anything. Regarding our suggestion that they might lose young customers in particular, she said unkindly that this clientele could be dispensed with.
We were then allowed to pay by card, but had to pay a fee of 2.10 euros. On the receipt these 2.10 euros were declared as various drinks. Now that we have done our research, we know that the fee was far too high and ask ourselves at the latest whether this was legally all okay.
Conclusion: Really a pity that our good mood was gone after visiting the restaurant. We understand the service that she was stressed, so the issue of wanting to pay by card is seemingly an explosive issue. But we have no understanding for the unkindness, especially because we were polite all the time. We were there the last time.

Disrespectful

In the car there is a sign that says “please wait here, your place will be allocated to you”. There we are Bach 5 minutes 1.5 m short in the room to counter, since no one came.
The very unfriendly lady hissed at us, we would have to wait behind the sign!!! And when we said we've been standing here for five minutes, she kept saying cheekily, then you can wait 10 minutes.
BUT we heard that she was just chatting all the time and was told by the kitchen that there were people standing there. We went spinning on the heel. Nobody needs that!!!

Very unfriendly hotel !

The rooms of the hotel are fine. There's nothing wrong with that. The same goes for food. Both in the restaurant and the breakfast buffet.
A silent negative is the fact that both the restaurant and the associated bar are closed from 20:00. You can't even use the terrace anymore. You won't get drinks anymore either, because it doesn't even have a vending machine.
This is particularly serious because there is no substitute location in the walking area.
Also negative is the fact that from 20:00 the elevator is switched off and you have to climb the stairs to get to the rooms. For the older guests, which is true for most, this is an imposition.
Overall, the hotel is virtually non-customer-oriented. The staff let it be noted - almost celebrate it - that it is overworked and therefore extremely unfriendly towards their guests. You can't shake the impression that you're not welcome.
All in all: I will definitely not stay there again and cannot recommend the hotel. Basically, I even have to advise against it.

No rejection but also no recommendation

We have been to the Waldschenke twice in the last few weeks, I won't go again.
It's nice that there are still authentic family businesses in the Odenwald, and that's why we get points. I can also understand that older people want to go out for a leisurely meal on Sunday lunchtime, for example. The goose was also OK. The schnitzel and side dishes were not to my taste, the red cabbage and dumplings were tasteless (we can make them much better at home), the side salad had a very watery dressing. The service varies between casual and bad-tempered, depending on the person. It's not a cozy or rustic apple wine bar, it wants to come across as "upscale," but somehow it doesn't work.
