Convenient for a business trip in Munich, no fuss hotel with very helpful staff and a generous breakfast

Everything is okay so far.

The price-performance ratio was excellent. A bit off the beaten path; it takes 10 minutes to get to the subway. The parking was fine. The room was also perfectly fine.
The reception is not designed for many visitors, so some had to wait a long time.
Otherwise, everything was actually okay.

Never again this hotel

This hotel is the worst ibis hotel we have ever stayed in! And we travel a lot! It started with a bored employee who prefers to sit in the back of the "office" eating chips instead of greeting and checking us in. We arrived with our family after 11 hours and we were told that our room has only 1 bed for ALL. Mind you, we booked and paid weeks before. But it's all booked up! I guess that happens more often, we'd be told. We wanted to leave again after seeing this tiny room with a double bed and suddenly we can get a big room for an extra charge. Outrageousness!!! Since it was late at night and impossible to find a new hotel with 2 children, we agreed. The room then a disaster, all very dusty and in front of the window a wheelbarrow, so landed in the middle of construction work!
When checking out even a bored employee without even looking up at the reception.
The breakfast we could have saved, is not worth the money!! No more this hotel!!!

Valey for money

We met with my cousin and stayed at the hotel in 2026 in February (04-11) in room 408. It wasn't big, but it wasn't small. It was very clean though. They changed towels daily
In the corner of the hotel at less than 100m there is the Tegernseer Landstraße stop of tram No 25 which goes to the Rosenheimer Platz station and you can make a transfer to the S BAHN S1 and S8 for the airport of the unit and the bus stops 54 and X30- for OSTBAHNHOF. Behind the hotel there is the supermarket REWE about 150m
From the airport to the hotel you can take the S1 and get off at Feldmoching station and from there you take the UBAHN - U2 you get off at Silberhornstraße station to get the tram number 25 and the next stop is Tegernseer Landstraße and you arrived at the hotel

Strategic top location for city trips: Clean, smart and super-accessible

As a frequent traveller to Munich, I deliberately chose Ibis München City Süd because of the balance between price and location, and I am not disappointed. This hotel is a textbook example of "what you see is what you get", with a few strategic benefits worth noting.
The Location & Accessibility (5/5): This is the absolute asset of the hotel. Don't be put off by its location outside the Altstadt ring road. The connectivity is phenomenal. You actually have a choice of three options:
U-Bahn (U1 Wettersteinplatz): Just a 5-minute walk away. This takes you directly to the Hauptbahnhof in less than 10 minutes. Ideal for arrival with luggage.
Tram (Tigernseer Landstraße stop): Literally around the corner (2 min). Tram 25 is recommended for a more scenic route towards the centre or to the green south (Grünwald/Bavaria Filmstadt).
U-Bahn (U2 Silberhornstraße): A little further walk, but perfect if you have to go directly to the Messe (fair).
Facilities & Environment (4/5): A big bonus for the budget-conscious traveller is the large REWE supermarket just steps away (on Tegernseer Landstraße). Since hotel breakfasts in Munich can be expensive, it is ideal to get fresh bread, fruit or snacks here. There is also a McDonald's nearby for late cravings. The neighborhood (Obergiesing) feels safe and local, much more pleasant than the hectic station neighborhood.
The Room (3/5): Here you have to manage your expectations. The rooms are typical Ibis: clean but compact.
Clean: The housekeeping deserves a compliment; the laminate floors and bathroom were immaculate.
Compact: With two of us and big suitcases, it's a bit of dancing around each other. It is efficiently furnished, but do not expect a ballroom.
The Con: The biggest lack is the lack of a refrigerator in the room. Especially with that nice supermarket around the corner, it's a shame you can't put drinks cold or save yogurt for the morning. Keep this in mind!
Service (5/5): The staff made the difference. From the check-in to the bar: everyone was genuinely friendly, spoke good English and thought along (for example with route advice). That human touch gives the hotel that little bit extra over a budget option.
Conclusion: Ibis München City Süd is the perfect base ("hub") for those who want to explore the city and use the hotel mainly for sleeping and showering. You compromise on space and luxury (refrigerator), but get spotless logistics and hygiene in return. Worth a solid 4 stars.
Tip: Ask for a room at the back for absolute silence, although the soundproofing on the street side was also fine.
