The Big Room We've Been Waiting For!
This family run hotel is easy to find as it's right across from the church in town. The outside is very whimsical and you can tell the young family man and his wife who owns it keeps very busy taking care of their family and running his hotel, which also includes a cheese shop and a wine shop.
He went to the car with my husband and helped carry our heavy bags up the flight of stairs to our room. And what a room it was! It was really a suite of rooms. We had a dining area, a huge bedroom and an enormous bathroom with a huge shower! Everything was beautifully and thoughtfully crafted. The workmanship is extraordinary. The WiFi worked great!
We were given a permit to park by the church. Breakfast was included in the room rate which was very reasonable. The hotel is just a short walk to the center of the town and all the shops and restaurants. It is also a short 15 minute drive to Garmisch- Partenkirchen and the beautiful little town of Ettal and it's pretty little Abbey. Also close by is the Zugspitz and a little farther away are the castles. It's a perfect location, especially if you plan on seeing the Passion Play which will take place in Oberammergau next year.
If you are planning a trip to this area, think about staying at the Zum Kirchenbauer.

Congenial and helpful host, comfortable room & breakfast of homemade local food
Andreas is a cheesemaker who also runs a wine shop and small inn. Our room on the top (3rd) floor was spacious and clean and the breakfast buffet offered a wide assortment of local cheese, bread, sausage, yogurt and juices. From the train station just keep walking right towards the steeple of the church. The church cemetery, which is very interesting with carved monuments and tidy well kept garden plots, is immediately in front of the Kirchenbauer, a charming Bavarian painted house with attached barn -cheeseshop. Andreas was very helpful when I left my coat behind at the Museum and we enjoyed talking with his family. Highly reccommended!

Excellent Service and Price
I visit Oberammergau every year..this is first time I have stayed at Zum Kirchbauer..I was delayed and had to check in late..Mr Andreaus held my reservation for me. Upon checking in I was helped with my luggage to a very nice..clean Bavarian type room
With double window facing a beautiful church in the center of town. Every day the room was cleaned and I Had fresh towels..an assortment of toiletries and a blow dryer.
Any time I had a question..I could ring the bell at the front desk and someone would be there in seconds to help. The breakfast was very good as well. Wifi was available. My last day there I told Mr Andreaus that I had to check out at 530am to get a train and what I should do with key..he have me instructions and next morning 515am..I started to take luggage down and I was surprised to see Mr Andreaus at my side taking my luggage downstairs for me. Theres a sweet black lab and a beautiful toddler that made me smile if they were nearby. A sweet family offering a great place to stay in Oberammergau. I would highly reccomend this Gasthaus.
The only thing I would say is they didn't give the Konig Card that the other hotels give.
Price is excellent.

Excellent!
We really liked this place. We stayed here for a week, with our 6 years old son, and loved every moment.
The location in Oberammergau is superb, we did every day many trips in the area, lots of hiking, cable cars rides, Austria is around the corner too. The “König card” included many activities for a reduced or no price at all and really paid off.
One of the highlights is the view from this apartment, from the main balcony (2 totally). We had a pastoral view on the Alps, which we enjoyed in the evenings.
The apartment itself is big and very spacious. Our son got his own room with lots of space to play. There is a big wardrobe. It was very helpful to have a washing machine and a dryer.
Another highlight was the breakfast, which for us cheese lovers was amazing! Every day big variety of delicious cheeses (also lots of sausages but we stuck to the cheese), fresh buns and mini croissants, great coffee too!
The couple who runs this place is friendly, kind and attentive.
The only minus point was that unlike the advertisements there was no internet connection in the apartment, which for us specifically was a problem, so we had to pay extra to connect to the only local net available in the area, cause ours didn’t work there.
If they fix that issue, we are definitely coming back there! Thank you family Ruppenthal!

Wonderful Place
We stayed there in a high Season, but Mr Andreas (the owner)and His family were very friendly and booked a very nice room for me.The room was clean and the breakfast really complete. I recommend this place.
