Hiking in Oberstordf.
We booked 2 rooms directly with the hotel for 3 nights and received confirmation email from hotel. When we check-in, they told us that our booking was cancelled by mistake. They provided us 4 Single Rooms for 1st night and Double Rooms for next 2 nights. Nash and a German gentleman on duty when all out to ensure we were comfortable and not stress out by the mistake made by the hotel. Excellent service recovery by the staff. We were happy to stay at the hotel even though we were not given the rooms we booked for 3 nights .

Not a 4 star hotel, but nice spa
The hotel is very well located, just 15 minutes from the train station and a short walk to the center. A bus stop is just 1 minute from the hotel (bus no. 7). The hotel has a very nice sauna and pool area with cozy relaxation room and also own beautiful garden overlooking the mountains. Bathrobe, slippers and towels are provided.
The hotel is not a 4 star hotel in my opinion. There are so many little things that could be improved with little means to improve the overall picture. In the bathroom were holes in the floor, which you could just put a neat filler. On the white tile wall, over 10 drill holes were spatulated with dark grey. The cleaning lady had to be told that the liquid soap had been empty for two days. We also asked for a change in our room and several times we were told the caretaker was coming and nothing happened. The reception doesn't even get a "good morning" over the lips in the morning, doesn't know the area either, even otherwise the staff is not warm, maybe it's also due to the language barrier. The dining room resembles a canteen and is quite uncomfortable, but has a very nice view, the breakfast and dinner buffet is served totally unlovingly, most food is already cold. The breakfast buffet never changes, at least sometimes different fruit would be feasible and not pineapple every day for a week. For the price of the half board / dinner buffet prefers to eat somewhere else, in terms of taste it is unfortunately not worth the money in the hotel.

The first impression decides
A key is also a business card, intended to appeal to the recipient, makes you greedy for the new.
Even the parking lot at the house is a construction site with unpaved area, the entrance area into the building less appealing, even dingy. The receptionist in the reception was correct but without any empathy, purely business.
As it turned out later, the staff of the hotel were international, little ignorant of the German language, without knowledge of the region, the place. The expertise of the reception staff was limited to the delivery of: Toilet paper, cosmetic tissues, worn bathrobes, shabby bath towels and towels for the sauna.
Our room as booked spacious with large balcony facing south. Structural errors (see photos) among others: the standing ceiling worn out, the hair dryer on the wall only as a dummy , the dispenser for body lotion impractical inside in the shower. The cleaning service is poor: sporadically the floors were vacuumed (for days the lint lay on the floor), used dishes (glass, coffee cup) not cleared, the sheets not changed for days (in 10 days), the bed lacquers perforated, the balcony not swept for 10 days, the deck chair battered, the terrace table dirty, the parasol shabby. The room attendant confirmed to us that she only uses a cleaning cloth to clean for everything like toilet, shower, sink in respective rooms. The wiping rag for the floor was disgusting black (see photo). The vacuum cleaner after work was done lay carelessly around the corridor (escape route) from evening.
Booked half board: Food ok., certainly no gourmet food, dessert boring; The dining room generous, equipment functional as in a company canteen with self-service/buffet: loud, hectic, uncomfortable, after 1/2 hour some guests are already fed after dinner. Usually enough food is available; on one day already at 09:30 no bread and rolls were missing.
On the quality of the staff, another episode: We wanted an iced coffee in the afternoon, we received a cold coffee. When asked where the vanilla ice cream was, they said, of course, in the coffee. Since we insisted, the waiter had suggested giving us extra vanilla ice cream. After a while, according to another waiter, it was said that vanilla ice cream is not there at the moment !
Like many things, maintenance is bad, a caretaker is missing, controls are missing. In the changing rooms opposite the indoor swimming pool the lights are missing for two days, in the area of the wellness area a high-power cable leads as a trip hazard to an outdoor construction area. On the beautiful sunbathing lawn there is no order at all, an old towel lay for days on the deck chair.
The outdoor swimming pool is not a feast for the eyes, the water is more like brackish water. Waste floats on the surface of the water, a film of oil spreads on the surface of the water, the walls of the pool are greasy. Regular treatment of the swimming water is a false indication, regular water control is not discernible.
The glossy house brochure testifies to good old times, even these business cards are faded. The 4-star rating is not currently earned by the facility with this leadership and team.
The receptionist's farewell in the reception was without a warm word, purely business. As long as the tour remains as it is and the hotelier's focus is on saving, there will be no reunion for us; a word the host does not know when saying goodbye.

Little friendliness
The location of the hotel is perfect, very close to the center. The rooms are old but okay. What I didn't like was the atmosphere. The ladies at the reception briefly tied, zero friendly. When I wanted to use the wellness area at 5 p.m. said am me, unfortunately there are no towels anymore. At breakfast, things were constantly off. Too bad, but with all these "little things" it doesn't make a good overall picture.

The hotel was a great fit for us!
Based on the different reviews, we didn't have high expectations.
We were very happy when we moved into our large apartment next to the sauna - very nice!
You can reach Oberstdorf very quickly on foot.
Breakfast - everything was there for us and we could order what we were missing. Dinner - we were really surprised, it was very good, also in terms of quality.
Riccardo from the service was a very attentive and caring employee in the dining room for us as a family!
As the weather was unfortunately not good, we had a lot of fun in the indoor pool (the water could be a bit warmer) and at the table football table.
Of course it is true that a few modernizations would be beneficial. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back!!!
