Super vacation hotel in beautiful Oberallgäu leaves no wishes unfulfilled
I was at the Sonnenalp Resort for the second time this June.
And once again, everything was perfect: Service and friendliness: 5 stars, sports offerings:
5 stars, breakfast and dinner: everything one could wish for is available: 5 stars. On the last evening of our stay, we visited the Michelin-starred restaurant "Silberdistel": perfect service, excellent food: 5 stars!!!
That was the crowning achievement of a fantastic vacation!
We will come back!!!
And once again, everything was perfect: Service and friendliness: 5 stars, sports offerings:
5 stars, breakfast and dinner: everything one could wish for is available: 5 stars. On the last evening of our stay, we visited the Michelin-starred restaurant "Silberdistel": perfect service, excellent food: 5 stars!!!
That was the crowning achievement of a fantastic vacation!

Once upon a time, there was a top hotel....
We were greeted warmly by 3 quite young employees.
In the evening, we took part in the personal tour of the hotel and to the dog pond.
1. Impression: It was noticeable that there are different loungers there than at the pools - the old (discarded!) loungers are stored there (that's how people used to use old things for the allotment garden, it was good enough for that). Not a good feeling.
The next day we went to the pond with our dog. It seems unkempt. A lot of bare liner can be seen, the pebbles are more in the pond than around it. These should be permanently glued to the liner, or a so-called pebble liner should be laid out instead, then it is no longer slippery.
The latch on the gate no longer fits, the gate is sagging.
Not only we, but also other dog owners complained that the pond is separated from the loungers. The website gives the impression that you can be at the pond WITH your dog. No such luck.
The water is full of algae. We actually intended to go into the water with our dog so that he would finally swim for once. This was not possible; it was too slippery and too full of algae. The dog also slipped on the liner.
You sit on the pump housing in full sun (I complained about this on-site and a parasol on a spike was brought immediately (unfortunately we were no longer able to enjoy it)).
Overall, you do not feel comfortable there... the old loungers, the algae, plus various piles of dirt in plain sight; that could be made nicer with a few privacy screens.
The "dog pond" idea is great, the execution is not... "Siding." €40 for that is a steep price, especially since the dog has to stay in the room rather than being able to come along. I understand this regarding the buffet, but he should at least be allowed on all terraces, for example, just like in other restaurants.
Our first dinner at the Hofgut was great, we were able to sit outside with the dog and enjoyed it.
Room 718 very nice (with dog), however the 2nd impression was not good, because we unfortunately found someone else's human hair on a nightstand, and someone else's dog hair on the bed. I reported this in the evening and was assured that it would be cleaned immediately (we were eating at the Hofgut in the meantime). This did not happen. Upon calling again, I reached the night porter and he came with cleaning supplies and then cleaned it away. Very friendly and thanks again to Mr. Wolf!
The trash can in the bathroom has dents.
In the room, everything was good except for the aforementioned, the view was beautiful.
The 1st breakfast was accompanied by a rather disgruntled waiter: a table outside was set up somewhat grumpily, the seat cushions were then provided upon request (!).
We did not feel welcome!
However, the flair the next morning was completely different when the team leader was (back) there, welcomed us, accompanied us to a nice table, rearranged it in a jiffy, and wished us a nice day. She was probably off the previous day, and we felt that. THAT is how it's done, and THAT is how I remembered it too!
Conclusion: Unfortunately, we did have quite a few negative experiences that do not fit a 5-star hotel.
Why did I want to go back to the Sonnenalp?
While moving, I found a green soap box from the Sonnenalp, from about 50 years ago, when I was there with my grandparents... This stirred up memories. I remember that incredible pool with the waterfall from the 'castle', and that the Fäßlers used to come to our table every day and have a chat.
So I booked a few days at the Sonnenalp.
Unfortunately, however, we were met with the aforementioned impressions.
We did not see the Fäßlers. A pity, as I had the soap dish with me...
P.S. The Sonnenalp Hotel wanted a review a few days after we checked out. I sent it in - no response. This is lastingly deeply disappointing.

Disappointed regular guests
Requested a quote almost 2 weeks ago - nothing came, very disappointing!!
Unfortunately, it reminds us again of our last vacation at the Sonnenalp. Back then, the service at the Waldhaus was just bad and disappointing, from an otherwise friendly and attentive Jörg Voigtländer. Sonnenalp reaction - none

Culinary offerings and staff deserve 5-star superior!
Large family resort with a great sports swimming pool, bathing pond, and also a spacious indoor pool. Wonderful sauna area. In this area, everything is of very high quality, and in all areas, the staff is top-notch, always friendly and accommodating. This is certainly a major plus point here in this hotel. Great staff! Culinary delights at their finest. Compliments also to the kitchen crew. The breakfast buffet was exceptionally good, and the dinner was also excellent - with options for a menu and/or buffet. In this area, it is absolutely five-star superior. We had a standard double room. Unfortunately, it did not have five stars. The bathroom could at most be rated in the three-star range. No ventilation. No air conditioning. There was also no air conditioning in the room. Really disappointing for such an excellent hotel. Overall, there were many children and toddlers. One must really like children to feel comfortable here. Absolutely unsuitable accommodation for adults only fans.
We did not see the owner family. Photos of the family can be seen everywhere - even in the dining room! That is somewhat strange. As mentioned, they did not show themselves.
Two really great golf courses that belong to the hotel. Overall, it is a great destination for a vacation. If the room were equipped accordingly, I would definitely agree to five-star superior.
Compliments again to the great service and the motivated staff in all areas.
