Good guest rooms with nice hosts

The host was just super nice and friendly. His chummy manner is simply warm.
The room was really big and looked nice. It was also all clean.
Breakfast: really good. Some rolls with sausage, cheese, jam. Also cereal. What more could you want?
I didn't eat in the restaurant myself, but the portions looked good at least. Both the size and the food itself.
My room was fortunately facing the quiet side. Rooms facing the street could possibly be uncomfortable due to the noise of the cars - a lot of traffic.

Average Stay

Stayed here whilst visiting friends in Overath. On the whole the hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable. The decor was dated however it was not too bad. We were provided with continental breakfast at a time of our choice which included a range of cold foods along with cereals and coffee. Fresh eggs were also made upon request. Only problem we found with the hotel was the unpleasant smell of smoke still lingering in the hotel as smoking is not banned from public places. If you can't stand the smell of stale smoke I would not recommend this hotel.

Convenient and Clean

Arriving at the railway station in Overath walk past the taxi rank , turn right and Bergischer Hof is just along the High Street on the left hand side of the road. It is very conveniently situated. Inside is a lively pub and restaurant with rooms above. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, with good beds and good linen. Slightly cold when we arrived , but the central heating was very efficient and it soon warmed up. We were surprised that people were smoking in the pub ( the smoking ban is still partial, apparently - but if the smell of smoke offends you, you may not like the background aroma of cigarettes in the main parts of the building. Our NON-SMOKING room was fairly fresh ).
Breakfast was fine and basic but you might also like to try the Bakery/Patisserie next to the railway station which has a good choice of freshly baked breads and pastries, good coffee, orange juice etc all served with a smile and open very early.
When booking, if you telephone be aware that not everyone on the staff speaks English - so make sure you have your German sorted out!!
We used Begischer Hof for two nights whilst we attended our friend's wedding - and it was basically fine.

Sehr lecker

Das Essen war sehr lecker, der Kellner freundlich.
Die Bestellung war zügig, auf das Essen mussten wir eine Weile warten, was aber nicht schlimm war.
Einen Stern Abzug, weil der Kaiserschmarren eher ein zerkleinerter Pfannkuchen mit Vanilleeis und Sauce war. Da muss noch mal nachgebessert werden.

Nichts für Corona-Bewusste

heute mein erster Restaurant-Besuch seit Beginn der Corona Pandemie. Die Familie hat einen abgetrennten Saal für die Feier gebucht. Während ich den Kindern erkläre, wie sie sich im Restaurant zu verhalten haben und dass sie ohne Maske den Raum nicht verlassen dürfen, tritt jemand vom Personal ohne Maske ein (vermutlich der Inhaber). Ich erkläre, dass jemand der nicht zur Gruppe gehört und den Raum betritt, ebenfalls seine Maske tragen muss. Er fühlt sich davon nicht angesprochen. Als ich ihn gezielt noch mal darauf hinweise, macht er sich über mich lustig. Kurze Zeit später kommen auch Gäste einer anderen Gruppe in den Raum, um zu telefonieren. Ohne Maske. Da ich mich unter diesen Bedingungen dort nicht wohl fühle, verlasse ich die Gesellschaft. Auf dem Weg nach draußen begegne ich wieder dem Bediener von vorhin. Er wird aufbrausend und fragt mich, was ich für ein Problem mit ihm hätte. Ich erkläre ihm die Verordnung zur Benutzung von Mund-Nasen-Schutz im Gastraum. Er regt sich auf und erklärt mir, er könne sich dort bewegen wo und wie er wolle. Ich „hätte den Knall“ wohl nicht gehört, meint er. Eines weiß ich: ich werde dort keinen Fuß mehr hinein setzen.
