Reasonable/good alternative in a city without many.

Location very good, almost in the center of the small town of Ratzeburg. Rooms are reasonable in size with some "aggesively" red pieces of decoration. Good bathroom reasonable with excellent shower. Breakfast is OK without being exceptional.WiFi connection is good. One negative aspect:the staircase leading to the guest rooms is very steep and not "user friendly". Fortunately the very kind son of the owner helped us with our small luggage so we didn't have problems climbing the "infamous" staircase !Rate for a double room at almost EUR 100 is a bit steep.

Wittlers Hotel Ratzeburg

Good location, near to town centre, Dom and museums. Reasonable price, decent continental breakfast and helpful staff. Only things missing were a kettle in the room and a phone but this did not spoil the stay in any way, if I needed them and asked I am sure they would have been provided. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit the town and hopefully will again visit in the near future.
The transport links from Hamburg Airport (Trains and/or buses) are excellent, very well priced, clean and efficient. Very good Italian resturaunt nearby and for those on a tighter budget there is a butchers shop just off the main street that serves good wholesome lunches, limited choice but very tasty and popular with locals.

Nice traditional hotel in a lovely town

Surprised to find that this is the first review of this fine, traditional hotel, well-located in a charming town that must attract a fair number of tourists. It may be getting up there in years (and there was no wi-fi), but the bathroom seemed new; and dinner in the hotel restaurant was excellent - I never knew that herring could taste so good; accompanied by a salad and fried potatoes that were perfect, as well. Hotel is ideally located on a quiet side street in the center of this delightful small town, built on an island in a large lake; its main set-piece attraction is the lovely brick cathedral dating from the Middle Ages; but there is plenty of pleasant domestic architecture as well, mostly red brick with white trim, often covered with climbing roses or vines, and contrasting nicely with the blue of the lake and the green of the many trees. There is also a landscaped walk with parks around much of the island, ideal for an evening stroll - while it hardly compares to nearby Lubeck, Ratzeburg is certainly worth an overnight stop on any tour of northern Germany; and I would certainly return to Wittler's Hotel.
