nice hotel, with small weaknesses

Location: The hotel is located in the center, great location.
Parking: Parking garage is right next to it, costs 7€/day, really ok. Not for big cars, though.
Staff: very friendly.
Rooms: very spacious and well equipped. Very clean. Air conditioning is unfortunately missing.
Breakfast: nice manageable buffet. Everything you need. However, in this price category you can certainly expect fresh bread rolls and no baked TC goods.
Overall, a nice hotel. Because of the lack of air conditioning and the TC cakes but also a little too expensive.

Nice hotel in a good location, the staff was very friendly.
We had a large, quiet room with a nice bathroom.
The breakfast was OK.
Only the parking fee stated is no longer current.

Not recommended

As soon as you enter the building, you are greeted by a sweet, musty smell - airing is a foreign word here.
The staff are cautiously friendly and only say the most necessary words.
On a gray, rainy afternoon, we were greeted at a dark reception.
No word was said about the sauna and fitness room. When we explored on our own, we found the doors locked.
The corridors are nicely designed. The room furnishings have no charm whatsoever.
There was one portion of instant coffee for two people, the tea bags were open.
Stains on the poorly attached curtains and the carpet. A bathroom door that hadn't been cleaned for a long time and calcified fittings. The smell of cat urine came in bursts from the toilet corner. The bed linen had holes in places.
Our room facing the street was rather noisy with the window open, and the view of the apartment building opposite was depressing.
The breakfast buffet offers the bare essentials without creativity or loving preparation.
The coffee tastes good.
The rooms are nice, but also poorly ventilated. Cigarette smoke keeps coming into the room from somewhere.

Loveless, without spirit, unprofessional.

No, this hotel is neither 4* nor even remotely worth the hefty price of €160/night/Fr. Reception in the dark when you arrive, no "Welcome", instead a completely unprofessional "What's your name?" from an obviously untrained young temp - the only staff in the whole hotel. When asked in the evening about the opening of the bar, a reference to the minibar in the room. "Rain shower" in the bathroom rusty, ventilation unbearably loud, bed with fitted sheet that was too tight (!). At breakfast, which was OK but not spectacular, the waitress (half-length trousers, tattoos on her bare lower leg) calls out into the room: "Anyone want more scrambled eggs? With or without?" - The hotel has nothing to do with professional hospitality. You get the impression that the aim here is to make as much money as possible with as little effort as possible. Three stars at best - and even then it is unloving and not recommended.

Quaint

This was my first visit to Speyer and I would definitely recommend this boutique hotel. It was super convenient to walk to the Christmas market on the main High Street near the Speyer Cathedral end. The hotel has a luxurious feel and was well maintained, clean and my room was spacious. The hotel is family-run. The basement where breakfast was served was cavernous yet cosy.
