Very pretty location
We enjoyed our stay here, the reception was friendly and the hotel was clean and well-maintained.
The shower tool a shower to heat up but perseverance helped.
Breakfast was good with a selection of cereals, cold meats, cheese and yogurts.
There was no lift to get to the top floor.
The hotel was in a really good place for visiting the town on foot and the town itself was lovely.
We would stay again.

Very disappointing
We spent three nights at this hotel and unfortunately can say: Never again. Due to an incorrect booking we received a “better” room, but it still did not meet our expectations – especially compared to the very positive reviews we had read in advance.
Little was felt of the promised “Harz hospitality” and the personal atmosphere. The reception was cold, sometimes even unfriendly. Of course, everyone has a bad day – but if an employee is unfriendly throughout the stay, it seems more like a fundamental problem. There was hardly a smile, no demand for our stay or whether we are satisfied. One felt more disturbing than a welcome guest. The boss of the house also made a very reserved impression – overall we were given the feeling: pay, sleep, leave.
Our room unfortunately also left much to be desired: A large, clearly visible cobweb hung from the smoke detector in the hallway. There was dust in the corners, overall the room was not thoroughly cleaned. In the bathroom, we discovered mold from our point of view – on the ceiling above the shower, on the tiles and on the shower door down by the rubber seals.
A particularly disappointing point: A week before arrival, I had asked by phone for a packed lunch – or at least to be allowed to lubricate myself. After some back and forth, this was promised on the phone (presumably by the boss). On site, however, even the taking of two tea bags was denied. In our view, given the location in the hiking area, there is no basic understanding of the needs of guests. Breakfast times from 8 am are also rather impractical for hikers – an earlier start would have been desirable.
Breakfast itself was average. We searched for regional products, especially Harz specialties, in vain. Labels were also missing, for example for cheese.
In addition, there was no night watch: When a group of drunken guests were loudly in the courtyard late at night, they had to deal with it themselves.
Conclusion: Unfortunately very disappointing – both in terms of service and cleanliness and atmosphere. We were looking forward to Wernigerode, but the hotel was not a good choice. Very bad

Good hotel in the old town
The hotel is well connected in the old town. Gastronomy and shops in the immediate vicinity.
Parking for 6.50€ directly in the backyard.
The rooms and breakfast room are renovated, bathroom also renovated. In our case, however, very small. It is and will remain an old building and these should also be preserved.
Staff friendly. Breakfast offers good and large selection, I personally would have liked a croissant or similar in addition to rolls and white bread. However, to count this as criticism is not fair to the otherwise large variety at the buffet.
