Hotel Alter Wolf was beautiful. The area around the hotel was walkable and felt very safe. The Wolfsburg castle was a short walk away and we spent a lot of time there. My main downside is that there was not a refrigerator or coffee machine in the rooms

Disappointing, never again!
Quiet location directly at a park to Castle Wolfsburg. Autostadt within easy reach. For the better.
The negative points:
Where to start here. No staff on site, which is not noted in the offer. Check-in at the front door via QR code did not work. The code for the key box has not been submitted. At least someone in Hamburg answered the phone immediately at the number provided. Get key, then call again, it's the wrong key. Received the next key, this was then a single room. We had booked a suite with 3 bedrooms and living room. Call again and go to the key box again to pick up 2 more keys.
The booked "suite" consisted of 3 small, single and spartanly furnished rooms, which were located on one corridor. In this corridor was also the separate bathroom. The specified living room did not exist! A cheek to rent something like this as a suite! Unfortunately we had booked some appointments in the Autostadt, so we did not have time for discussions on the phone. To a later written message to the operator about booking, to date no reaction.
The whole hotel and the rooms worn out, musty smell. No blackout possible in the rooms. Windowpanes set in moss. Fly screens in one room consisted only half. Cracks on the ceiling edges. Damage to moisture. In the morning in a room an ant street on the wall.
It was just a cheek and disappointment at the same time. With what rating should this hotel have 3 stars. This is where urgent basic remediation is needed.

Very basic, as the room and price was expected. Room was a bit cold. The carpets could see a deep clean. Well, it was cheap and ok

We get what we pay for. The hotel has seen better days. But was in a good working condition. Very good parking. The key boxes gave not only me a bit of a challenge. Two other guests arriving around the same time as me also had a bit of a challenge to figure thing out.

Dilapidated old dirty without breakfast
As with many other reviews, I will describe my situation here.
The hotel was booked for one night with breakfast.
When I got to the hotel, the hotel was dark. There was a sign on the door saying that the reception was not manned. On the left were a few information boards that gave a reference to a number. I scanned the QR code and tried to call via WhatsApp, but no one answered the phone. After further searching, I found two more cell phone numbers and tried to call them. The first number only gave the message "the number dialed is currently unavailable". When I got to the second number, a man answered the phone with broken German and said that he couldn't help me. I should please try the number from the very beginning again, he would let them know. So I tried the other number again and someone answered the phone. On the phone, I was then told that my key for the room was in the key box and that I should have the code by email. However, I had not received such an email. He then gave me the code on the phone and I had my key. When I asked when I could have breakfast, I was told that there was currently no breakfast. Why can that be booked? Then he had to explain to me how to get into the building. He was visibly annoyed that I hadn't found it straight away. It was just a side entrance. When I went into the building, I was hit by the smell of tons of air freshener, probably to cover up the musty smell of the building. There was no elevator and the building had 4 floors. The room numbers didn't make sense. For example, room number 34 was on the 3rd floor and numbers 9-15 were on the 4th floor. On the way up the stairs there were used tissues in the hallway, and some of the doors and door frames were damaged. When I got to the room it smelled very musty, as I had already suspected. I had the window open all night, but the smell didn't go away. As others have already described here, the carpet was stained and the chair was sticky. To be on the safe side, I didn't want to use the shower because I wasn't sure what the gray spots in the corner were. I didn't feel comfortable in the bed either because of the condition. I didn't want to check the mattress under the bed cover.
Later on I spoke to other guests who had the same opinion as me.
