clean room, staff were very accommodating and helpful when you needed or asked. breakfast was adequate and fairly priced. biggest grip we had was the odor coming up from the drain siphons they use as plumbing traps..the first room was horrible and they moved us. second room still had the odors but not as bad. we solved the issue by putting wet towels over the and drains just to let you know. this place is ok if you are just looking at a place to put your head down which is what we usually just look for.

Hotel cancelled my 2 friends but refused to refund me when I requested cancellation

Terrible experience. My 2 friends and I booked a room each in the Alva in early March. My friends booked the last 2 “free-cancellation” rooms so my booking was prepaid, which we expected would be fine. A few weeks after booking my friends were notified that their rooms had been cancelled. No apologies or explanations were provided. I contacted the hotel and they confirmed that my friends had been cancelled. In that case I requested that my room be cancelled and refunded. Long story short, after SEVERAL phone calls and a few emails to both the hotel and booking.com my refund request was declined. Each tried to blame the other before they both agreed that it was a third party booking agent who needed to make the refund. There were no contact details for this agent.
It is the worst experience I have ever had with a hotel and it completely spoiled the holiday. I had to stay in a separate hotel to my friends.
The room was nice and clean. Though breakfasts weren’t included, I only ate one at the hotel. It was extremely basic. I joined my friends at their hotel and paid for their nice breakfast every other morning.
I generally don’t believe in bad reviews. Problems are best addressed, there and then, between reasonable people, but this experience was beyond unacceptable.

I thought the property and staff were all good. I would suggest some type of shelving or a drawers. We couldn't unpack our luggage and it was really inconvenient living in and out of our suitcase.
I didn't have breakfast so I am unable to comment.
The location worked. It waa centrally located.

The service was excellent. From the front desk to the maid service. Breakfast was fresh and the friendly server/chef always cooked up an omelette if desired. She always greeted with a smile and “good morning “.
