ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!
This hostel is warm, safe and in a fabulous location right in the town centre. It was out of season, I pretty much had the whole hostel to myself so it was a very quiet and relaxing experience. I had a double pod which was ideal for keeping my clothes and personal belongings in and the lounge and kitchen area were excellent having all of the utensils you need (including a walk in fridge!!)

AVOID AVOID AVOID
I am a solo female traveller and because I had been to Akureyri before and seen that the outside of the hostel is completely closed with no reception or way in unless u have the check in details, I contacted the hostel a few weeks before my reservation and asked when I would receive check in details. The man on the phone told me that I would receive them via email the day before arrival.
He double checked my email address and assured me the instructions to check in would arrive nearer the time of my stay.
Fast forward to my booking time and no email arrived 24 hours before check in, I tried and tried to ring the same number again where I had spoken to this man previously but either the phone line went completely dead instantly or it would ring and ring with no answer.
I also SCOURED the internet for an email address for this hostel but could not find one ANYWHERE online. I had no choice but to board the plane and hope that the check in instructions would arrive at some point during the journey. I arrived in Iceland at 2030 at night on a day after there had been a yellow severe weather warning in place. It was cold l, it was dark, still no check in instructions and still no answer on the telephone line. I had zero way of making contact with the hostel. I arrived at the hostel at around 930/10pm after clearing immigration and taking the airport bus. Sure enough my worst fears were confirmed when I had no way whatsoever of accessing this hostel. The doors are locked and I had no check in Instructions, no way of contacting anyone and no way in. So I was basically homeless in the dark in Iceland, I had no choice but to book into another hotel on the same road at further great expense. I continued to try to make contact but could not. I had to spend the entire holiday in alternative accommodation.
When I arrived home I continued to try to call the hostel and one day about a week after my booking, someone answered the phone!! I explained my situation and the man said I would need to email my complaint over, he provided me with an email address.
I emailed and explained and after a few messages back and forth where all I was told was that I should have tried to contact them (!!!!) I was told that I was in the wrong and would not be receiving a refund or any compensation whatsoever !! Not even the opportunity to re book for a different date! So I have lost the money for 3 nights in a hotel that was locked and I could not access, not to mention the stress, worry and danger I was put through to be stranded at night as a solo traveller in a foreign country! I am shocked and appalled . I even provided them with screenshots of all my attempts at ringing them in the 24 hours prior to check in. When I asked them to provide me with any proof that they had emailed me the check in instructions, they could not.
