Hidden gem - wonderful host !

Though the hotel is located a few hundred meters off the road around Lake Myvatn, it is perfectly located for visiting its main attractions.
The owner (a former chef) is incredible friendly and helpful. It is great to experience his passion about good cooking/kitchen stuff (coffee machine!) which he freely offers his guests to use.
Sitting on the sofa in the main room was very relaxing.
Would have loved to stay here for longer than just one night !
Will definitely come back when being in Iceland.

Excellent Location with Friendly Owner

We enjoyed our stay at Birkilauf. It is conveniently located with parking. The room was a nice size with a great bed. The place had a washer but was not able to use because other guests here were doing their laundry. The owner mentioned he would have out cake and bread for the guests but always seemed to be gone when we were there. Stayed 3 nights.

A hidden gem, highly recommended

The man running the guesthouse communicated well in advance and sent us a payment link early so we didn’t need to think about it on holiday. When we arrived he was welcoming, friendly, had cooked us fresh bread and banana cake. They had fast internet, a kitchen stocked for breakfast, and he told us where all the best places in the area were. Fantastic place to stay!

Nice place, friendly host

The common room and kitchen are very impressive and the host is enthusiastic and welcoming baking bread for the guests and providing tips . It's well located in myvatn .
The rooms are not very soundproof which wasn't a problem for us as the other guests were quiet .
The rooms are nice and the showers warm .
