Wonderful hotel, at the edge of city centre, for budget savvy travlers

I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Klettur. The rooms are not big nor fancy, but they are well organized, functional, quiet with comfortable beds. I wanted a place that was walkable, close to bus stops if needed, but not in the middle of the chaos and noise (which the Laugavegur area can be like). Breakfasts were plentiful and good. Right at 7:00, there's a lot of pushy and rude tour bus and/or cruise crowds at breakfast, but everything is great if you can wait until 8:00 or 9:00 to eat. A Bonus supermarket is an easy walk, and a delicious Reykjavik Roaster coffeeshop is just across the street. I highly recommend Hotel Klettur especially for a budget conscious traveler who doesn't want to be any further away from the city centre (like many other budget hotels are). Only criticism would be it would be nice to have one piece of artwork in the room. The rooms are great for minimalists!

Indecent room

Indecent room
I had never seen such a bad hotel. As soon as you enter you already feel that there is no good smell of clean, in the hallways there is an old and dusty carpet, but the most indecent thing is the room! A filthy chair, the filthy curtain, bathroom radiator all splattered with dirt, empty hand soap, shower glass a block of limescale. I strongly advise against this hotel unless they disinfect everything first, the funny thing is that they even charge a high price for it without merit.

Efficient hotel with perfect location

We stayed here three nights total during the course of a six-day tour. The rooms are plain but the beds are comfortable and all the amenities are there--iron and ironing board, refrigerators and an in-room safe. Although I appreciated the fact that there is luggage storage if you can't get in your room right away, having to lug my baggage down to the subterranean storage area (none too large) myself was a bit of an unwelcome surprise. The included breakfast is well stocked and tasty, but tends to be overrun by mobs of tour groups and overnight people getting on cruise ships--going later is actually better in this respect. The location, I suspect, is the best feature of this establishment--it is easy walking distance to numerous dining and shopping options.

Dear KiyoshiT,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your stay with us. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed our comfortable beds, well-stocked breakfast, and especially our central location within easy walking distance of Reykjavík’s many restaurants and shops.
We also appreciate your comments regarding the luggage storage and the busy breakfast periods. We understand that carrying luggage to the storage area can be inconvenient, and we’re sorry this was an unwelcome surprise. Breakfast can also become quite lively during peak times when several groups are departing at once, and we appreciate your understanding.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Hotel Klettur on a future visit to Reykjavík.
Best regards,
Rakel and Team Hotel Klettur

First Time in Iceland

Great location near good restaurants and not too far from the main shopping street. The breakfast buffet was always exactly the same and the breakfast staff were not very friendly. They don’t let you take a piece of fruit out of the breakfast room. What difference does it make if we eat it there or in our room later? Aren’t we paying for it?
