Grand, Charming and Full of Nostalgia

What made this stay wonderful was the hospitality of staff and the opportunity to meet with the owners. This property is extremely charming with bucket loads of history and cultural heritage, a private museum and a very nice selection of local food at the buffet breakfast. The rooms are charming full of nostalgia of the grand past. The general manager went out of his way to ensure I had an itinerary and was able to visit significant and beautiful temples of which there are many. The house is located within walking distance of significant Chettinadu mansions open to the public. I highly recommend this stay. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is because there were some very noisy guests with small children that kept me awake until midnight when I was very tired from travel and the AC was experiencing some difficulties which I'm certain would have been resolved by now.

A privilege to stay here

This is a heritage hotel, do don’t expect all the frills of a modern luxury hotel, for example there was no fridge or tv in the room.
However, for the heritage experience there is nowhere better to stay. Spacious room and bathroom and everything was clean. A little worried than an electric point was actually in the shower - but I guess that’s India for you.
Breakfast was good and they would make toast for you if you wanted it. Coffee was good also. Lunch and dinner were also good, but you had to pre-order,
The staff without exception were friendly, polite and helpful.
Overall I felt it was a privilege to stay in such a historic building.
I did venture to the swimming pool a few blocks down the road, but the water looked green so I just sunbathed.

Good but short night

Of course we are far from luxurious comfort, but the setting, the kindness of the staff makes this ex-palace is very pleasant. Excellent cuisine and breakfast.
A black spot however and of size ... the night of January 1 to 2, 2026 ... 4 a.m. and until 6 a.m. the music and songs of the temple, thoroughly covering the whole village is unbearable. So, short night, too short in a region where noise is a scourge to add at night is unbearable .... For a village that wants to open up to tourism, it will have to evolve.

Amazing authentic Chettinad experience

Excellent hotel that provides an authentic Chettinad mansion experience. Great food, freshly prepared with traditional Chettinad spices. Great staff , always willing to help. Gopakumar is an asset to the hotel who is very professional and customer centric.

Loved our stay here

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The old mansion is a delight and the rooms are comfortable and highly functional. The location of the mansion is terrific. A walk around the town is very interesting plus this is a great spot to use as a base for exploring the wider area. The meals here are excellent. They are delicious and the menus are well thought through. Just have a light lunch is my tip. Apart from the mansion itself, the real stars of the hotel are the staff. They are unfailingly helpful, polite and efficient. All the staff here made our stay a very happy one and we extend our heartfelt thanks (along with a well deserved tip!). I highly recommend this hotel and would very happily stay here again anytime
