Wonderful homestay in the middle of their rubber plantation.

We stayed in the 400 year old storage house , lovingly restored by the owner,Louis. Wonderful food prepared by his wife Clary. Louis was so knowledgeable about his farm and Kerala in general. We enjoyed his early morning tour of the rubber plantation. and watched his worker skilfully tap into the trees to collect rubber. He walked us down to nearby river and very kindly drove us to a spot to watch the sunset .

Truly a gem in Kerala.

On a 4 day bike tour of Kerala, my wife and I stayed a night at Kuruvinakunnel Tharavadu. It was an unexpected highlight of our trip. Louis Kuruvilla's family has owned this beautiful property for generations, and has lovingly and meticulously restored the original homestead into a most welcoming guest house.
Louis and his son gave us an extensive tour of the property, on which an abundant variety of crops are raised. We enjoyed meals with his family, and had long fascinating conversations.
Could not recommend this property more highly! I will return for a longer stay, and take advantage of the many local excursions available (biking, trekking, wildlife viewing),

Great Experience!

Mrs. and Mrs. Kuruvilla were great hosts. Perfectly balancing being available/accessible and giving you space to enjoy your time there. We are from California and stayed at the Tharavadu in Oct 2023 - me, my wife, and our two young children (aged 9). We stayed there for 2 nights. The kids loved it as did we. It was relaxing and beautiful.
- beautiful grounds (Mr. Kuruvilla walked us around). Well kept.
-Tharavadu itself is phenomenal. Well appointed and clean.
-upgraded with modern comforts (bathroom and A/c) without sacrificing the aesthetic of this heritage home. A lot of the old architecture has been preserved.
-I personally enjoyed the history (my kids included -- they still talk about the Jaguar story)
-We had a few meals with them at their residence-- Mrs. Kuruvilla made some great food.
-We enjoyed good conversations with the Kuruvillas (with their youngest son as well)
-The Tharavadu had a fridge and plenty of clean water that was bottled. There is a microwave and plates/cups/utensils as well if you need them.
-The only negative or con would be that sometimes the Food Delivery drivers (Zamato, etc) get confused or lost where the property is. So be weary of relying on food delivery places. If I were you, I would just arrange for meals with Mrs. Kuruvilla (must do this ahead of time before you arrive).
Again, this was one of the highlights of our Kerala visit and the whole family enjoyed it -- a memory we will not forget. We had visited relatives in North and Central Kerala, but this was a great break and respite from all of those obligations. We are so glad we found this place and took a chance to stay here. I highly recommend this place. We will definitely attempt to stay here again whenever we come back to visit. Totally worth it.

Indian hospitality

Very warm welcome at Kuruvinakunnel Tharavadu. Louis inroduced his property, a 400 years old house in the rubberfields in a very lovely garden. His wife cultivates fruits, vegetables, spices and honey. She creates amazing tasty indian traditional food.
Louis took us for sightseeing to a huge rock in the mountains. We appreciated a wonderful overview at sunset. On the way we stopped in a
Grammophone muzeum. We were indead surprised about a great collection of grammophones and vinyl records.
We thank Louis and his wife for their hospitality !

Wonderful homestay in Kerala

We stayed at this property with our family. It was very, very clean and the Kuruvinakunnel family did a wonderful job preserving their ancestral home and setting it up to accomodate visitors. Louie and his wife, Clary and their son provided us with the history of the house as well as a tour of the grounds so we could see what they grow on their property (cocao beans, several types of fruit and chilis, pepper, cinnamon etc.) The house provided us with a comfortable and private setting on a lush green property. The stay also provides breakfast and we made arrangements for a few dinners also as Clary is a FANTASTIC chef! Everything she makes is delicious and we were given the opportunity to try dishes that we had not had before. She also accomodates any special dietary requirements if needed. Just as an aside, the family also produces and packages their own line of spices, preserves, coffee beans and cacao beans that they sell under the label - Kuruvinakunnel Tharavadu Farms. We tasted a few of their products as well as the honey that is produced on the property and everything was very fresh and yummy. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thank you to the Kuruvinakunnel Family for such a wonderful stay.
