David Residency is without question the worst accommodation experience I have ever had.
After making my reservation via Booking.com, I was contacted almost immediately by someone from David Residency: first through Booking.com messages, then via WhatsApp, and shortly after by a WhatsApp call. I was told that I had to make a deposit to keep the reservation (about 25% of the total amount). I paid this deposit and clearly provided my flight number and arrival time, stating that I would arrive between 2:00 and 3:00 PM on December 24, 2025.
When I arrived at David Residency at that agreed time, the first thing I was told was not “hello” or “good afternoon”, but simply:
“You have to wait for 10 minutes.”
There was no explanation. When I asked why, the man I dealt with reacted irritated and defensive. He claimed that I had said I would arrive after 6:00 PM and that this was the reason the room had not been cleaned yet. This was incorrect. I had clearly communicated my flight details and arrival time in advance. Later, almost casually, he added that the previous guests needed the room longer. Despite these contradictory explanations, he continued to blame me. From the very beginning, his attitude was rude and unprofessional.
I was allowed to see the room. I had booked a deluxe room, but what I saw was very disappointing. The room was dirty, extremely small, and very basic. There were two unstable single beds with very thin mattresses, even though I had explicitly requested a double bed. The ceiling was low, the space cramped, and a thick support pillar stood between the beds, literally splitting the tiny room in two.
I made a remark and asked whether this was действительно the deluxe room. He insisted that it was. He then said I could have another room, but only if I paid at least double the price. I said I wanted to think about that for a moment. Almost immediately after, he informed me that my booking had been cancelled.
I tried to calmly find a practical solution and said I was willing to stay one night and decide the next day whether I would remain longer. When I attempted to pay for the first night, he suddenly claimed that my deposit was lower than what I had actually paid. I had paid 2000 rupees, while he claimed it was only 1800 rupees. When I repeated that I wanted to decide the next day, he said this was impossible and told me that I had to leave immediately. The deposit was eventually returned.
All of this happened in the afternoon before Christmas Eve, a time when almost all hotels in Madurai were already fully booked or close to full. Because of the behavior of the person from David Residency I was dealing with – it was never made clear to me whether he was the owner or a staff member – I had to spend many hours searching for accommodation. He clearly acted as someone with full authority and had detailed knowledge of my booking and deposit.
Eventually, I managed to find one hotel at an extremely high price. For the following nights, I had to visit many hotels in person and only managed to secure a place to stay by pure luck, in a room normally reserved for government use, so that I would not end up sleeping on the street.
What made this even worse: after leaving, I saw that David Residency had listed the same room online again for almost 300 euros per night. This is shameless and unethical.
David Residency is run in an extremely unprofessional manner.
I strongly advise anyone to avoid David Residency in Madurai.
