Smooth Stay With Helpful Staff, but Room & Amenities Need Improvement
Check‑in was quick and without any issues, although communicating with some front desk staff was a bit challenging at times. After receiving our keys, we headed up to our room. When we entered, the first thing we noticed was how spacious the room was — outdated but plenty of space to move around and store luggage comfortably.
The beds were very comfortable, making it easy to rest after long days of sightseeing. On the opposite wall, there was a tiny flat‑screen TV mounted on a huge wall, which looked oddly small for the space and felt out of proportion. There was a small safe and hair dryer inside the room. Iron and ironing board are available upon request. Laundry service is inexpensive.
In the bathroom, the shower had great water pressure, which we appreciated, but the cleanliness could be improved, and the sink drained very slowly, making basic use inconvenient. The hotel provided small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, but they were so tiny that we had to request more. Towels were another issue — they were thin and felt cheap, and there were no towels in the room when we arrived, so we had to call and ask for them.
Despite these shortcomings, the room attendants were extremely kind and helpful, which made a big difference.
We didn’t get a chance to visit the pool, but we learned that entry closes around 6 PM, though guests already inside can stay longer.
Breakfast was enjoyable, offering a good mix of American and Indian dishes.
On checkout day, we received a message from our airline informing us that one of our previously lost bags had been found. We gave the hotel staff instructions on how to handle it, and they followed everything exactly as requested. They also allowed us a late checkout, which made the situation much easier to manage.
Overall, The Ashok is acceptable, comfortable beds, and warm housekeeping staff, but it needs improvement in amenities, bathroom maintenance, and service consistency to match the expectations of a premium hotel.

One of the Most Disappointing Hotel Experiences We Have Ever Had – Completely Unworthy of a Government-Owned 5-Star Hote
We stayed at The Ashok, New Delhi (3–7 August 2026) in an Executive Suite, paying around ₹17,000 per night, expecting the standards of a Government-owned 5-Star Deluxe hotel. Sadly, it was one of the worst hotel experiences we have had.
Our bathroom had a major water leak, and despite repeated complaints, it was never properly fixed. As a result, my child slipped and was injured, yet the hotel showed little concern. We also had no reliable hot water for almost three days, had to change rooms twice due to maintenance issues, and eventually had to shower at a relative's house.
Our children were refused access to the advertised swimming pool, with staff telling us it was a private members' pool, something that was never disclosed when booking. The attitude of several staff members at reception, the restaurant and pool was indifferent and unwelcoming. We spent hours speaking to multiple managers, but nobody took ownership or resolved our concerns.
This hotel is owned by the Government of India and should be showcasing the very best of Indian hospitality. Instead, it fell far below the standards expected of a five-star property.
I have formally raised this matter with ITDC and have video and photographic evidence supporting my complaint. I sincerely hope improvements are made so that future guests do not have to endure the same experience.
