Stayed for 3 Months - Please Read Comprehensive Review Before Booking - Avoid at all Costs
The rooms do not look like they do on the official page. It's like the pictures are edited so that there is way more light. The reality is that there is very little light in all rooms. A 50-foot wall and huge building are currently being constructed so there is lots of noise, little light, and no real view. The most common complaints from customers are that the place is not as expected, which is true. There is a dangerous stairwell leading up to the hotel. VERY dangerous.
So the reason I stayed for 3 months is this. The bottom floor room, room number one, retails for 500 rupees The upstairs rooms retails for 1000 or 1500 rupees, depending on which room. IMO, the bottom room is actually better than the upstairs rooms. In other words, it's worth it. However, because of mold all over the room and the construction, this is no longer the case. Pictures below.
But that's not why I'm writing this negative review. I prefer not to review negatively unless a place is terrible. Last night, A Swiss or German lady started complaining in reception (I hear everything in my room, right next to reception). She was after 30 hours of traveling and refusing to stay due to bugs in her bed (I think she booked 3 rooms for a group). Furious at the accommodation, she demanded the money back for the second night, claiming the accommodation was not as expected. The manager refused to give her the money, after initially agreeing, and at midnight she and her friend actually went to stay somewhere else. Very frustrated and distressed, but no sympathy from the manager.
This is not the first time this has happened. Last week, another woman was complaining that the cheapest room on the ground floor was not as expected (not mine, the other one. DO NOT go for that one, it is awful). Obviously, the manager did not care.
On two more occasions, I heard severe disturbances. On my last visit, a woman, most likely Indian, was screaming at the manager in Hindi. And I mean screaming. She would not leave, she was p"ssed in a large way. I have a hunch that the manager clean ripped her off, to her face, and said we have given away your room, and are not giving you any money. This was last year, when he was actually in reception. Now he has to be reached through the phone. The reception children speak a bare minimum of English.
The issue is that that the image given by the site simply does not match the reality, and is only going to be a let down. The site is over-optimized, the place under-optimized, and it can only result in a negative experience.
The accommodation aside, the way that the manager treats customers is absolutely shameless. If he can rip you off he will, and the rooms are not as described. If you come here you will be disappointed. Don't think that just because its expensive by Rishikesh standards that you are getting a quality room.
I was lucky with the only room that is actually worth it, though this is no longer the case. There is a good hotel in the alley over, a 30 second walk. I have not been in, but the customers all seem very happy and it has good vibes. Nobody stays in this one for long, aside from me, an eccentric. Even so, this is my last stay. A baba warned me about this place on my first visit.

I have never experienced that in 30 years travel and have suggested to booking.com to drop this hotel from their listings.
WARNING - Strongly suggest don't risk the Golden Crown!
