Former backpacker hub

Long running guesthouse, just off jalan jaksa, the former backpacker hub...the whole area is now just a shade of it's former self...but it's still ok to stay here as the location is central, in fact I could just walk there to/rom Gambir station and airport bus...there are various types of rooms, ranging from 100.000 rupiah (fan cooled room, shared bathroom) to 200.000 rupiah (aircon, tv, private bathroom)...some interesting and colorful long term guests here, mixed with some very short time guests (if you know what I mean)...the wifi is ok though occasionally connection gets lost...the central courtyard has common seating and is a good place to hang out and meet various characters

Cheap but very basic

This place has been around for a long time, and it shows...the rooms are very basic, basically a bed and a chair and a small table and that's it! But at just 100.000 rp for a single room with fan and shared bathroom, that's about as cheap as it gets in jakarta these days!
The common areas are nicely decorated with plenty of seating...wifi works fine too...all in all an acceptable lodging for a night in transit, as it's near the main railway station and the airport bus!

Need to paint the walls

We were looking for a place to stay with air conditioning since it was a bit too hot. We are usually fine with just a fan. We saw a few places but rooms with air con were high priced. We were tired after a long flight and at the end decided to take the room here. It was supposed to be 180k but when we paid he said that 150k were fine. Thanks for the discount. We looked at the bedsheets and they were clean, the air con worked perfectly but honestly... that was it. The walls are so dirty is almost unbelievable, so many blood stains of splashes mosquitos... plus some otger black stains everywhere. Some painting would give the place at least a cleaner more comfortable look.
When I went to brush my teeth I realised that there wasn't a sink... !!! So need to brush in the open shower.. and getting completely wet was the result. No toilet flush.. just bucket but that's fine lines. And WiFi worked very well.
It was fine for one night. No insects in the room beside mosquitoes and midges especially in the bathroom.

Ran out of water. Not hot water, just water.

We stayed here for a night on the strength of a mention in Lonely Planet. Don't. We got one towel between 2, no loo roll, and the shower stopped, er, showering, partway through. Despite having an AC room, it wasn't airtight so mozzies could still get in, and even if you had a mosquito net there'd be nowhere to hang it. I've stayed in quite a few cheapass places in SE Asia now, and this one is firmly in my bottom 5. We only paid 200,000IDR (no breakfast) and it's still not good value at that price - and the cheaper fan rooms will be horrible in Jakarta's brutal heat.
One tiny plus point: the wifi did actually work reliably in our room (22, very close to the front).
Location - despite this being the backpacker zone, the location really isn't great -- there are a couple of bars around the corner (avoid Jokers, it's a hole: service is SLOW and portions are TINY), but insofar as there is anything worth seeing in Jakarta at all, it's not here. You want to either be up in Kota, down near Mini Indonesia, or at the airport. It's a good 20-25min walk from Gambir station thanks to the insane road layouts, traffic and lack of safe crossing points (possibly due to the militarized US embassy nearby). The very local location is awful too - open drains under the sidewalk stink.

Schlimmste Absteige..

Kommt hier nicht her!
