Grand Luley is Amazing

Grand Luley is wonderful. I had an amazing time, mostly because of the air conditioned room, the beautiful grounds, the excellent breakfast buffet and dinner, and walking out to the end of the jetty to watch the sunset. That said, some of the grounds could use a renovation, particularly around the pool where there is chipped tile. Tips: Walk to the public dock just south of the grounds to hire a boat to Bunaken; Luley is in the Mangroves and it is so humid that your clothes will not dry; Don't leave food in your room; it will attract ants.

Best view, WORST SERVICE

Overall, It was disappointed.
I traveled with my family and fiancée, and we booked two rooms. When we arrived after a long trip (about a 2-hour drive from my place), the male staff member (not sure if he was a bellboy or receptionist) was standing there without smiling and didn’t offer any help with our luggage or bags.
In the first room, the AC was not cold, so we reported it and requested to move to another room. The second room was even worse. The AC still wasn’t cold, the cupboard was dirty and broken, there was no safe box inside, the bathroom door handle was broken, and there were lots of ants on the bed. We reported the issues again and asked to change rooms once more. Finally, they gave us a good room, and the room attendant made sure everything was in proper condition. We were satisfied with the third room.
We also booked a spa treatment (Balinese massage), but they skipped the foot wash even though it was included in the package. There was no relaxation music at first—we had to request it—and when they finally played it, the speaker ran out of battery and was turned off. The therapists need more training, as this was not my first time having a Balinese massage in Bali or the Maldives, and the experience here did not feel relaxing.
When we asked why we didn’t receive the foot wash, they said it was because another customer was still using the equipment, so it wasn’t ready for us, which was disappointing. We complained to the reception, and they eventually gave us a discount, as we didn’t want to pay full price for a treatment that clearly included services we did not receive.
We also played billiards, which costs 150,000 per hour and includes one pitcher of iced tea. We played for more than 30 minutes, but the iced tea was never served. My fiancé had to go to the restaurant twice to remind the staff, and their reason was simply that they forgot—unbelievable.
We complained, and they gave us complimentary sliced fruit, peanuts, and an additional 30 minutes.
It’s really unfortunate because this resort has great potential. The view is amazing, but the service was very poor overall. Only Mika at the reception and one lady at the restaurant had a good attitude and provided us with helpful information.

Moderate

The grand luley has a nice appearance and a nice swimming pool. There are hundreds of apartments but the majority were empty during our 2 visits. The rooms are in disrepair. Maintenance is no longer carried out. In our room, for example, the bath was rusted through and the shower only gave cold water.
The restaurant, which is mostly empty, is expensive and of poor quality. Many dishes on the menu are not available, many dishes are downright not tasty.
All in all disappointing.

Wonderful hotel surround by tropical gardens in a remote environment

Good hotel in a beautiful environment bordering the ocean. We all loved this place, it is a little older but well maintaind and stylish. The garden is wonderful and borders mangroves. A straight pier spans a couple of hundred meters over the swamp, from where one can reach the sea. From here you have great views ocean and vulcano on the horizon. Unfortunately our stay was just brief, would have moved to stay a couple of days more. Well worth a visit.

A wonderful stay with a bitter aftertaste long after returning home.

We stayed here in the first week and third week of our trip on Sulawesi in March 2025. The hotel is beautifully situated by the sea with a mangrove area in between. By boat from the hotel you can visit various islands in the area and the most beautiful snorkeling spots. Lovely! As someone else also writes, some refurbishment could be done. So the ceiling under the air conditioning in our room suddenly fell down soaked. This was solved provisionally by simply pushing the ceiling back. :-) Minus is also that the key cards to open the door of your hotel room must not be near a mobile phone; you can no longer open the door of your room and you have to go back to the reception to have the ticket activated again. Once is not bad, but several times in 1 day???
The staff is very friendly and helpful. On our last day before we went home, insta accounts were exchanged at their request. But pay attention: once home, there appeared to be something else behind all the friendliness. Via instagram we first received sweet messages that gradually turned into sad stories and the demand for money to deposit. Such a shame. The fact remains that our stay there was lovely and we had a fantastic holiday on Sulawesi.
