Fabulous venue, amazing location, fantastic staff

We visited for a family occasion and it was our first time here. The staff were exceptionally accommodating and genuinely went above and beyond to help make the day memorable. Several of our guests praised the staff (Mick in particular) , the venue, and the food. Highly recommended

Excellent venue for a party

We had our son’s christening party in the Lynott suite on the 9th of August and we would strongly recommend the Marine hotel.
This is an excellent venue for any family party. The food and staff were exceptional with all our guests commenting on the taste, speed of service and presentation of the food. Bar service was quick and no requests were an issue.
There is ample parking at the hotel and it was spotless throughout. Food is served late on Sundays as well which is a nice touch.
There are plenty of spaces outside and access to a private beach with spectacular views across Dublin.
There is a swimming pool but we didn’t get to use it on this occasion.
Mike and the team were extremely attentive and made our day a special and memorable day. We would highly recommend this hotel for value and service and we will most definitely be back.

Christening party

I had my sons christening party here and it was a lovely day. The staff couldn't do enough for us and the room was the perfect size. Food was lovely too. Veronica was really helpful with the organisation of it all. We will be back for sure.

The location of this hotel is fabulous, right on the seafront of a beautiful coastline. It's close to the station so an easy trip into Dublin and lots to do locally, especially if you like golf and the outdoors.
The hotel itself is very tired. It's is currently undergoing refurbishment and I hope it will be a lovely hotel once more.
The breakfast team were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. We didn't eat any other meals at the hotel as we were out and about and visited some lovely local restaurants, but over the weekend (which was a bank holiday) the restaurant was busy.
Sadly the bar lacked a bit of atmosphere.
We had a nice stay but the tired decor and facilities let it down. Hopefully the refurb will bring it up to a higher standard.

Lovely, peaceful two night stay in one of my favourite hotels!

We booked directly with hotel on its official website. Cheaper than all other booking sites. We stayed Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August, 2 x adults in Superior Sea View double room and 1 x adult in twin room (in different part of hotel) We did not book meals with our rooms , or use the bar or pool facilities on this occasion, but have done so previously , and enjoyed without issues. Despite it being August bank holiday period, we had no disturbances and the hotel had a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of families and couples enjoying the indoor and outdoor spaces.
On this occasion we had the pleasure of meeting Vaso (Vasem?) on reception desk, apologies for incorrect spelling! He was a handsome , mature gentleman, grey hair and wore spectacles! He checked us in efficiently and despite a little confusion with the booking, he handled it all with good humour and wit! He appeared to be of the old school type of receptionist , he was dressed smartly and had the presence of someone in control and who could handle any issue brought to him. A hotel reception desk check- in procedure can make or break a stay, it is the first line of impression and of what may be in store for the rest of the stay. He made us feel very welcome indeed and when we were checking out he made us want to return. An asset and hope he continues working there!
For context, I was born and raised in the area, my parents first met outside the hotel back in early 1960's when a cinema was nearby. I know the immediate area of Sutton, Baldoyle, Howth very well and areas further out such as Raheny, Clontarf (stayed at Clontarf Hotel many times) Malahide, Portmarnock and in my opinion all are jewels in Dublin's crown.
Our hotel room was quiet, peaceful , away from noisy vents or fans, it was very clean, with kettle, tea/coffee/milk and a coffee machine, iron/ironing board, and electric fan, bathroom was modern and clean with lovely complimentary toiletries, good walk in shower, and the view from our room window? well book a sea view room and find out for yourself!! you won't be disappointed. If you like to wake to the cry of seagulls and waves lapping this is the room for you!
Previously I have stayed in rooms on other side of hotel, unfortunately with the awful loud , constant noise from the fans on the roof , it was impossible to sleep, (my husband slept well though!) I recall the room was newly decorated and spotless but those fans!! terrible view and noise. My son did comment on how noisy the fans were again this time , even with windows closed. He forgot his earplugs, and the chemist across the road was closed, so no harm to bring a pair to be on the safe side. Reception didn't have any when he asked. I believe the fans/air con units on the roof may be for the pool area? not sure, but if I owned the place I would get rid of the swimming pool altogether( and the noisy fans) to make space for more rooms and set up a free bike hire from hotel with packed lunches to explore the area, arrange walking /history tours of the area and surrounds, maybe also put some outdoor sauna rooms ? and a coffee cabin/shack (everywhere has one nowadays!) generating sales from those guests and non guests who use the beach area for walks etc. Paddle boarding is another option maybe? ah sure I'm only raging I didn't have the €10 million to buy it! :-)
The hotel has ample free parking, yes , it is old in parts but google its history, its been around a long time, refurbishments are taking place, they are subtle, and its nice to see its not losing its old personality. Exiting out of the carpark if you want to drive straight across to towards Station road is a pain, remember when exiting the hotel car park it puts you directly onto the busy Sutton Cross junction (Howth Road/Station Road). There is no dedicated green-light for hotel traffic (there should be really) anyway, exiting requires creeping forward slowly and watching the main multi traffic lights for all the surrounding lanes, and only crossing or merging when gaps open up or drivers let you out! If its busy, we just take a left and find a safe U turn and come back in the lane that we can go left at station road.
My sister was married in the hotel in the early 2000's and our family have good memories of that day, still talk about it. My family have a small cottage 15 mins walk from hotel, and I often stay at The Marine when I am visiting them. I will continue to do so, I hope for years to come. I did not get time to talk with staff on my recent visit or have a drink at the bar, but will make sure to do so next time.
Hotels in Ireland at this time and the hospitality industry in general are struggling to find and keep good staff, bar, kitchen, housekeeping etc, it is not easy to get it right all the time and issues will arise. I hope The Marine finds its feet when all the refurbishments are complete and its gets back to the old North Dublin gem it used to be, and hopefully a new generation of guests will make memories there.
