Memorable night in the Tannery townhouse

Wonderful stay in the Tannery Townhouse. Room gorgeous with the comfiest bed. Ate in wine bar and had the tastiest tapas and delicious wine. Breakfast was lovely with a great selection. Wanted to taste all of it!!
Coffee really good. The staff throughout were so lovely and attentive. Can't wait to go back

Sadly Underwhelming

Working in Dungarvan for the past few weeks, I took the opportunity to stay in some of the accomodation options in the town. Having heard so much about the Tannery, I decided to stay one night B and B at a €180 rate. Unfortunately the experience left me completely underwhelmed. At reception in the Tannery restaurent space, the check- in felt perfunctory rather than welcoming. The room itself was small with no work space available. The TV functioned but needs to be updated. The bathroom was adequet but needs to have a silent fan fitted as that of the room next door was audible in my room whenever that bathroom was used. As the Townhouse is under the auspices of the Tannery, I expected more than Nescafe instant coffe sachets stored in a drinking mug without any accompanying biscuit or edibles of any sort. I had an early work start the next morning and had informed the management of this. When I arrived at reception in the restaurant space, I went in search of some staff. I found kitchen staff who directed me to the upstaire breakfast space. I requested just tea and bread/toast due to time constraints and was surprised to find that the orange juice wasn't fresh juice and the toast was sliced pan. I mistakenly thought the Tannery would have something special particularly in the bread department. There was no official check out. I just handed the room card to whomever I could find. No departing goodbyes left me feeling unwelcome despite the monies I had spent in the accomodation and the restaurant on the previous evening.Overall I felt disappointed by a location that I thought would offer something a little bit special.

24 hours at The Tannery

Excellent time and stay at the Tannery . We had a cookery demonstration from Paul to begin with ,very relaxed and informative. Then a cook off followed by lunch . Dinner in the evening was super and the guest bedrooms very comfortable and spacious. All in all a wonderful experience
Thank you

“The Tannery, Dungarvan: Where Reputation Doesn’t Match Reality”

I had high hopes for The Tannery, given its reputation and price point, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from start to finish. We specifically booked an early bird table for 6:45pm on a Thursday, as the early bird menu was advertised until 7pm. However, when we arrived, we were handed the regular menu. I queried this with our waitress, who told us the early bird had finished. When she returned with bread and water, I showed her the Tannery’s own website, which clearly stated the early bird was available until 7pm. She glanced at it and simply said the website was wrong and the early bird was over—no offer to check with a manager, just a flat refusal.
This was frustrating, as the early bird menu was the only reason we booked at that time. Otherwise, we would have preferred to eat later. Our only options were to leave or order from the regular menu. Since we were on holiday and didn’t want to search for another restaurant, we reluctantly stayed.
Service throughout the evening was underwhelming. The staff were all very young and clearly lacked training. For example, expensive screw-top bottles of wine were brought to the table and opened with a perfunctory “do you want to try?”—not the level of service you’d expect at these prices. The wine list itself was pricey, especially considering the quality and presentation.
The food was generally of a good standard, but not without issues. I had to ask what the “chicken butter” was, and when it arrived, it was so sour it was unpleasant to eat (and I’m not a fussy eater). The rest of the meal was fine, but nothing stood out as exceptional or memorable.
When it came time to pay, I spoke to the manager about the early bird menu confusion. Despite having raised the issue three times, there was no apology or attempt to make things right—just a casual “human error” explanation. No discount or goodwill gesture was offered, which left a bad taste after an already disappointing evening.
Overall, I left with the impression that The Tannery relies on its reputation and steady stream of customers, rather than actually delivering good service or value. It felt like they knew they could fill the place regardless of whether guests left happy. Sadly, a good name only lasts so long, and based on this experience, I won’t be returning or recommending it to others.
