Excellent location
Been coming here for the last four years and have always enjoyed the golf lodge accommodations, 9 hole golf course, indoor pool w sauna and jacuzzi, and restaurant and pub. We really like renting bikes and riding through the park to the nearby coffee cottage, St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney House & Gardens and even Ross Castle - longer ride but fun on a sunny day. Only cons are that accommodations at Castleross are showing their age and carpets need a cleaning.

Lovely Stay… Apart from the Permanently Wet Bathroom
We stayed in one of the self-catering holiday homes at Castlerosse Park Resort and, for the most part, it was actually really lovely. The house was spacious, the grounds were beautiful, and there was plenty of room for a family without everyone slowly beginning to hate each other by day three.
The kitchen was really well equipped with pretty much everything you’d need, and the living room was a great size, with a TV and a nice big dining table. There were two good-sized bedrooms: one with a double and a single bed, and the other with two singles, plus two shower rooms. So, space-wise, absolutely no complaints.
The grounds are one of the best things about the place. There’s a lovely lake in the grounds of the resort, and there are nearby wild deer and some genuinely stunning scenery. That was probably one of our favourite parts of the stay. I imagine golfers would be delighted with the whole setup too, although none of us play golf, so we mainly admired it from the perspective of people who enjoy grass but have no intention of hitting a tiny ball around it.
Location-wise, it’s a good base for Killarney and not too far from Muckross, although the traffic around Killarney regularly was at standstill.
There was entertainment every evening, although it did feel very much aimed at people aged around 60+. We’re in our 40s and one singer did eventually perform a few songs we actually recognised, which felt like an exciting breakthrough. A little more variety would be great, particularly something for younger adults and even a few songs teenagers might know.
The staff were very friendly overall, parking was good, and the gym and pool were perfectly fine.
Breakfast was nice, although we did have to go looking for someone and do a bit of gentle nagging to obtain tea and coffee. I also felt slightly watched while going back to the buffet, which was a bit odd considering we weren’t exactly staging a raid. Our 13-year-old had gone back for a second juice.
Now for the main problem: the bathroom in the self-catering lodge.
Oh. My. God.
It was permanently damp. Not slightly damp. Not “there’s been a shower recently” damp. Proper, relentless, everything-is-wet damp. The towels and floor simply would not dry. At all. This was August, but unfortunately a very drizzly August, so hanging them outside wasn’t really an option either. The blow heaters in the bathroom seemed to contribute roughly the same drying power as someone breathing gently on a wet Labrador. The towels stayed soaking wet, the whole bathroom floor stayed wet (and we'd pulled the curtain across for the shower properly), and the whole room started to smell damp. In hindsight, we probably should have asked reception for fresh towels and handed the wet ones in, but equally you don’t really expect towel management to become one of the major logistical challenges of your holiday.
The décor is also a little old-fashioned, particularly in the bedrooms, although that honestly wouldn’t have bothered us much on its own.
Overall, there was a lot to like: spacious accommodation, lovely grounds, beautiful scenery, friendly staff and a good location for exploring Killarney. Unfortunately, the bathroom situation was bad enough that we wouldn’t stay in the holiday homes again.
Fix the damp problem, add a bit more variety to the evening entertainment, and it would be a much stronger stay.

Good stay but cleaner the better
We had a very good experience but not as good as expected. The resort is very well located nearby Killarney and the main road to visit The Ring of Kerry and Dingle. The atmosphere in the resort is very pleasant as the place is charming and there are facilities in site like restaurant, pub, spa and swimming pool. We stayed at one of the houses. It had two rooms with 2 beds each (up to 6 people) and two bathrooms, kitchen and living room. The beds were really comfortable and the house had a good size. However, it wasn't very clean. The floor was dirty and the house needed some mending: three of the heating radiators didn't work; one of the bathrooms didn't have a shower curtain and the light on the mirror didn't work. In the kitchen there was a good amount of plates and glasses and cutlery, but the frying pan was screaming for a replacement. The only soap in the bathroom were little soap bars, not for your hair. In the kitchen there were dishwashing tablets but anything else, not even salt. The ammenities were a bit scarce for a 4 star accommodation. The house was really quiet and you didn't hear traffic noise at any time. People from hotel reception were really nice and helpful at all times. In general, we stayed very pleasantly but our experience would have been even better if the house had been properly clean and fit. I would definitely recommend staying in one of the houses. It has a good value.

Room okay, good food
The room is well furnished, but unfortunately it had not been aired out for a long time; the air was extremely stuffy.
The sink seems to have been set up for dwarves, so you cannot get your hand completely under the faucet (!) – hygiene does not work that way.
On the second night, there was loud noise from children in the long hallway for a very long time; there were no adults with them. Screaming and running – no one from the hotel staff noticed it.
For dinner, our group was seated in the darkest corner by the emergency exit. Every few minutes, a high chair was retrieved from behind us and carried over our heads into the large dining hall. Either you store the chairs that far back OR you seat guests in front of them, please not both, that is not fair.
Service and the kitchen proved to be very fast, the food was good – only the gratin was extremely over-salted and barely edible (the consensus of the entire group). How can it happen that you have to hear at the bar that the ale is 'out of order'?
At breakfast, there was very little butter on the table for the group; we had to constantly ask for more because only a small portion was ever brought. I missed the fresh fruit salad that is usually available as a healthy option. The buffet should be better organized because you always had to wait in line for a very long time.
On the second evening, we asked our tour guide to fight for a better table, which she achieved. Unfortunately, we were freezing on the window side because they let in too much fresh air, meaning they are too drafty.
The service was friendly, the soup on the second evening was fantastic, as were the tagliatelle (creamy sauce, pesto, pistachios), and the subsequent panna cotta was also excellent.
