Shocking

Currently here. The most disgusting filthy room ive ever stayed in. Huge Spider in the duvet at 3.30am climbing on my daughter, the other child saw it while getting up for the toilet and the screams out of them, they were terrified. Prior to this on arrival at 6pm there was a spider in the towels in the bathroom, the bathroom floor hadn't been washed and the carpet was soaking wet in the entrance of the room due to something leaking from the bathroom. The smell of damp in the room was sickening. The supervisor Robert was very kind and efficient, He helped with all he could and later on gave us a voucher for tea and scones. The main issues occurred from 3.30am though. 2 children terrified, refusing to sleep in the room. It disrupted my work on a conference call which means now on my night off I need to stay up till 2am to resume work. We are exhausted. Kids wanted to sleep in the car, I convinced them to go back to the room. They slept in the chairs then until breskfast. The night supervisor was amazing too, he did what he could, unlocked doors so we could take a walk too. He was very kind to us and he spoke to the receptionist who started at 7am. While all this was going on in the early hours I went back to the room myself and checked it, the dirt i found on everything including the kettle was shocking. There was even mould on the mattress protector and spider webs all around the wardrobe where I had hung my clothes in a rush. I took videos and photos of it all which the manager hasnt even bothered to ask to see. They offered a refund for the night and also switched our room, which is still not the cleanest but no spiders. My issue is we had to go back to sleep after breakfast, then they woke us at 12.30 to change rooms, then after switching around we had to go back to sleep absolutely exhausted. I had to cancel our boat trip and we only got out of the room at 4pm to try and enjoy some of the day. The manager never once came to speak to me or called me herself to talk, i had to chase her through the supervisor, eventually at 7.40pm she called me after i cracked up. To add, dont eat the cereal or seeds here at breakfast, because when we were up in the hotel in the early hours they were all set out, and would have sat for at least 3 hours and left open to the air and whatever else was moving around. I asked for a full refund and was told no, but if i did then we'd have to leave tonight. So I then asked for a 30% refund for the second night to compensate for the lost time during the day and for me having to work again tonight, the answer is a complete no. Im not taking children out of a hotel at 8pm to look for other accommodation or drive 2.5 hours home. So they have us under their thumb here. So.... it doesn't end there... back from swimming in the lake, 7.30pm and no hot water to take a shower. Freezing cold. Been told the boiler had to be lit and must wait at least 10 minutes to wait for hot water. Kids are starving and so more delays. Absolute joke of a so called 4 star hotel. The manager is rather ignorant with no intentions of considering even something off for the second night, even though its been ruined too. No relaxing done here except tiredness, pure stress and I needed a room with an outdoor space because both these kids have hidden special needs. One is incontinent and was refusing to use the toilet after thinking there's spiders in there and the other has panic attacks and needs space to move around. Cold water caused a huge issue for her, screaming again I had to calm her down. Im absolutely drained from this experience. Ive never had to write a review of a hotel before, but unfortunately I couldn't let this one slide. I paid upfront so had no issues with paying for a nice hotel break, but this is awful and 50% of my money back is just not good enough with the way this has left us. Imagine saying to a paid up patron that if they want a refund for this awful service that they can just leave with 2 kids in the night. I cant cope. I would have been happy with 30% off the second night after all this waste of time and stress today and would have kept my review to myself, people work hard to enjoy some relaxing time away and this is just not not good enough. I hope nobody else has to experience this.

Dear Angela,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We are sincerely sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. We understand that finding spiders in your room was upsetting, particularly with young children.
As soon as the issue was reported, our team responded immediately. The room was inspected, housekeeping attended, and we offered to relocate you as soon as possible. Unfortunately, no alternative room was available overnight. Our team therefore arranged for your family to move into another room at the earliest opportunity the following day. Having been informed that you were unable to sleep and did not wish to remain in the original room, we contacted you as soon as the replacement room became available at approximately 12:30pm. We are therefore disappointed that this has been presented negatively, as our team was simply trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
In recognition of the disruption caused, we refunded the full cost of your first night's stay as a gesture of goodwill.
While we respect your right to share your experience, we do feel it is important to clarify that our staff remained professional, courteous and committed to assisting you throughout the duration of your stay despite being subjected to raised voices and abusive language. They continued to do everything they reasonably could to resolve the situation and support you and your family.
We also feel that several aspects of your review, including comments regarding management and our team's response, do not accurately reflect the events that took place. Management was kept informed throughout the incident, and every reasonable effort was made to address your concerns promptly and professionally by our duty manager.
We take all housekeeping and pest control matters seriously and continue to review our procedures to ensure the highest possible standards for our guests.
We regret that your experience fell short of expectations and wish you and your family all the best.
Warm regards,
Kathryna

Perfect place to stay, inside and outside

Phenomenal experience, eating breakfast was the highlight of our day; we will be thinking of the french toast for a long time!
The room was just what we needed, staff were friendly and room service was easy to understand and of excellent quality. In particular it was lovely and quiet, we didn't hear anyone else at all from our room.
The area is beautiful and perfectly walkable, the locals were kind, and there were plenty of places to see things at. Lots of natural beauty!
We will definitely be back :]
