Magic.

This cosy lodge is located in an enchanting little town with endless amounts of things to do, it is as close to the surfing territory as it is to the night life and there is always something to eat close by. The rooms were spotless and well kept and we were asked if we needed anything upon entrance. But the real charm with Rougey comes with the staff. Some of the most charismatic and interesting characters I have ever had the honour of meeting. Most of them are transient but they dedicate themselves to making your staying experience as enjoyable as possible. If you get the chance, allow yourself to fall in love with the staff at rougey lodge as much as it makes leaving a little more painful; you will remember your days there for the rest of your life. And then some.

Pretty Average

Check in was at 16:00 and we arrived soon afterwards and a very pleasant lady showed us around and checked us in.
I hadn't pre-paid for the room when I booked it but was told only cash was accepted as payment. I had to go to the local shop which thankfully had a functioning ATM, it's 2024 card payments should be accepted everywhere.
We booked a double room and found on arrival that there were no towels, so I returned to reception to get a couple (€2 each extra).
Upon returning to the room my partner told me she couldn't get the heating to work, I tried myself, no luck so back to reception where I was given an electric heater to bring to the room.
"Look under the bed" I was told when I got back to the room with the heater, it was absolutely filthy, large dust bunnies everywhere. It clearly hadn't seen a broom in a long time.
The rest of the room and bathroom were pretty clean though.
The shower was adequate, there was enough hot water in the mornings for us both to shower, we'd brought our own shower gel etc., none is provided.
We didn't bother with the continental breakfast which is included in the price so can't comment on that.
We travelled out of season so there was no problem getting parking on the road in front of the hostel.
So in summary, adequate but could be better.

Visit, to go see Derek Ryan in The Allingham.

Have to say, Danny here was very helpful and friendly. I had my own private room which was great. 1st time I stayed here, if going to Bundoran again, I will book The Rougey lodge. Even though I booked it over a month ago, when I arrived, there was no record of my booking on the system. But Danny told me he had a room, available, I was very grateful. It wasn't Danny who took my booking over the phone, so I was very grateful to him, for his help.

Great place to stay !

Right in the middle of town. Free safe parking next door.
Rooms are clean, warm, with decent wifi. What more could you ask for ?
Continental style breakfast provided. Plus, as it is a hostel, you can cook evening meal, prepare lunch etc.
Friendly, helpful staff.
This is a 'surfing' hostel ... if you feel inclined to learn how to surf !

Wonderful place

This hostel was warm, inviting, and clean! They were extremely accommodating to our group of 30 and gave us a wonderful experience filled with fun. The owner is a wonderful person filled with joy and excitement to engage with a crowd (or not if you don’t want it). The ability for all staff to read a crowd is excitable. Overall, 11/10. Best hostel I have ever stayed in for a group of young and fun people.
