Authentic, surreal, warm and welcoming
The location is surreal. In a great way. Through historic, medieval, windy cobblestone lanes and stairs. Like you're in another world. Then the rooms themselves are so clean and new. Modern updated bathrooms. Views of the bridge.
Full breakfast included-- eggs, hans, cheeses, fruits, breads pastries juice and coffee. But you have to go to the bar California for it, about a 4 minute walk. In the room there are coffee tea and pastries.

Historic beauty
Things to note:
There is no internet. This was only slightly inconvenient.
There are a few flights of stairs, so packing light is a good idea.
Breakfast is included, but that means coffee, milk, and packaged cakes/pastries supplied in the apartment. If you want more, pack something or go grab something from one of the several small food shops in town.

Rustic, historic and small town welcoming
The BB is in a very old historic medieval house up quite some steps. Views of the bridge. Old stone hallways. Definitely gritty, rustic, charming and quirky.

Wonderful!
The accommodation is really in the heart of the medieval town and has lots of character.
Eating out in Dolceacqua is a delight as there are about five or six little restaurants just over the bridge and the bar California where you can sit with a glass of local wine and watch the world go by.
The pizzeria "La Rampa" has fantastic pizzas at very good value, a pizza and beer or wine costs between 7-15€.
The owners of la Casetta di Vale were very warm, welcoming and helpful and offered us a glass of their own locally produced wine when we arrived at their family-run bar "Bar California".
Dolceacqua is not far from the coast and you can be at the beach in 15-20 minutes by car.
Just one word of advice: If you are arriving in Italy through France be careful your GPS doesn't try and take you over the mountain to reach Dolceacqua as the roads are horrendous and takes over an hour from the frontier to Dolceacqua as opposed to 15 minutes. Follow the directions to Ventimiglia on the coastal road and then Dolceacqua.
We would recommend this apartment to all travelers who appreciate the charm and atmosphere of a medieval village with the comfort of a modern apartment.
