We stayed at the Borghese hotel for 5 nights as part of our Italian holiday. This hotel ticked all the boxes. It was in an amazing location and the staff were so friendly. The only reason I’m giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because we had a few issues with the air-con not working/ leaking which led to a couple of nights where it was so hot in The room, we couldn’t sleep.
That being said, it’s accepted that there was not much the staff could do and they were amazing. They were great at giving recommendations, and helping where possible. They were breakfast was also lovely.
I highly recommend to anyone going to Florence. You can’t get closer to the centre if you tried.

Note, this is the only hotel I have stayed at in Italy. It is not a Hilton, Marriott, Double tree.... corporate type of hotel.
It has the charm of the Florence town center area. You are reminded of being in Florence when you walk through the door. Its decor is an Italian art vibe. The staff was very nice. The buffet breakfast each morning was perfect and went until 11am. It had pancakes, eggs, sliced meats, cereals, pastries, toast with all kinds of jams, coffee of all types (espresso, cappuccino, americano...), teas and juices. It was not overly stocked but not lacking anything either.
The room was clean. It was a little on the small side but again, you are in downtown Florence within walking distance to everything. The building is probably a few centuries old, as all flats and apartment buildings in the side streets of downtown Florence are. But this hotel is well maintained for an old building like this. It's has a charming Italy vibe. If I can take away one star for anything it would be noise. Like I said, it's my first in Italy, so I don't know if this is like this everywhere. But I felt the walls were very thin and we can all hear each other in neighboring rooms. I can hear the man's full conversation next door. I can hear the people walking on the streets outside. I think this is normal for Florence though. I had heard someone else talking about it at another location. At night, I just used a white noise maker app on my phone to sleep. It worked fine.

Positive: Staff was super nice. The room seemed bigger than mentioned. Location is great. Wifi in the room was about 100mbs - perfect for some video calls. Good value for money. Everything was clean. Nice soft modern bed.
Neutral: Breakfast was nothing special but adequate.
Negative: There was a little bit of noise from the street / hallway - not terrible though. The smell of the cleaning supplies or some type of air freshener was pretty strong.

We booked our room August, 2025. When we arrived on the afternoon of May 20, 2026, the room had been given away. They offered us a room in an attic, up a creaky staircase with a door that required a key from 1800’s…The space was creepy, like a scary movie. This room was located in the “Do not enter, alarm will go off” area. As 2 70+ year olds, there was no way we could manage the stairs with our bags and it felt totally unsafe where they had trouble getting key to work. We honestly thought we could be trapped in the attic. I wish I could post my picture of how creepy this was. We declined & they magically found another room. We then were required to repack to another room the next night. The only highlight in this scenario was Reception Lu. She was very genuinely awesome & tried her best to make a horrible situation better. Also, breakfast was awful- horrible fake eggs, orange juice that was more than 50% water. Never again.

The hotel was well located. The room was strangely designed. Our room had steps to enter and a strange door key. The room was large and the bathroom was nice but there was a step up to get to the bedroom from the bathroom which was not ideal.
