★★★★★ The five-star night we didn't know we needed
After a wonderful dinner at Baccanti restaurant (see my review there), the last thing we wanted was the long drive back to our terrible Marinagri Hotel (read my review of that one and you'll understand). So we made a spur-of-the-moment decision to pamper ourselves with a proper 5-star night — and what a decision it turned out to be.
Everything at BV Quarry Hotel was outstanding from start to finish. The rooms are spectacular and wonderfully spacious. The kids were assigned a queen suite so generous they could have easily thrown a party for 20+ of their friends in there. My missus and I were in the suite next door, with a mattress that didn't just support you — it cuddled you. I haven't slept that well in ages.
And then there's the setting: a recently and beautifully restored ancient building nested right inside Matera's Sassi. Waking up surrounded by that history and those views leaves you genuinely speechless.
Two things you absolutely must not miss: drinks on the terrace, with the Sassi laid out in front of you — magical — and the breakfast, which is so rich and varied you simply don't want it to end.
What started as an impulsive escape from a disappointing hotel turned into one of the highlights of our trip. This is what five stars actually means. We'll be back.

Highly recommended
Excellent choice capture the city vibe great hotel but the best is the staff they were so helpful in every aspect. The terrace bar/restaurant wonderful as are the rooms. Very pleasant breakfast. Overall highly recommended

Views of Sassi and dinner
We enjoyed a lovely meal here on the terrace overlooking the Sassi. Staff made it very special for us they were very attentive. Food was delicious.

Great choice.
Having never seen Matera, I wanted to stay in a central area to experience it even in the evening, while also being convenient with luggage. And I made the right choice. The hotel is just a few steps from the Duomo and allows you to park in a private garage located outside the old town, from where it then takes you to the Duomo square, and from here someone from the hotel takes your luggage. So convenient. The location is beautiful, but without the flaw I had read about for other establishments, namely the problem of humidity and moldy odors, etc. The room is spacious. The bathroom is beautiful, everything is clean, and the bedding is something you rarely find even in a 5-star establishment. The courtesy set is complete, and there is a double supply of slippers, complimentary water, a kettle, etc. Breakfast is served in a room carved into the rock and offers everything. If I really have to find a flaw, I would say that it lacked a bit in the savory options; I would have expected some focaccia, pizza, or something like that already available at the buffet, but everything can then be ordered from the waiter (for example, eggs and bacon).

Great atmosphere for an evening drink with amazing views across to the Sassi.
