potential to be better- not a 4 star hotel
I would not class this as a 4 star hotel, I have travelled and stayed in many hotels in Europe and its does not meet the standards and facilities to give it 4 stars.
the hotel looks lovely on approach and the reception area is lovely, its once u get on ur way to ur room that the issues start.
we arrived very late our first night due to a delayed flight. we had booked a superior double with balcony. we were allocated a room on the 8th (top) floor. on our way to the room i started to notice the lack of cleanliness. the hallways are all carpeted but there is a thick layer of dust along the edge of the carpet, I ran my foot over it and it dragged all the dust into a clump. once in our room the smell hit us, a real bad sewerage smell which only got worse if shower/sink or toilet was used. the bathroom was full of mould, the door frame is all rotten from where the water from the shower gets wet, the rainfall shower drips water so for women who arnt washing thier hair its quite difficult to keep it from not getting wet and the handheld shower attachment squirts water in all directions. the lack of toiletries suprised me. 1 block of soap and one tiny 10ml bottle of shower gel, no tray to put the soap on so it sat directly on the counter. no shower mat and shower gets very slippy. no kettle/tea/coffee, which i had already emailed asking for. one pillow each which was rock hard and huge. I went to reception to ask for more pillows, kettle and toiletries. I was given the pillows and told someone would bring kettle up- they did not. the bed however was really comfortable which was a blessing.
the following morning I asked to change rooms, the smell was repulsive. the balcony was a shared balcony and didnt even have a table and chairs.
we were given a room on the 7th floor, the balcony in this room was tiny, u couldnt even fit table or chairs if they provided them. again, no kettle or tea/coffee making facilities so i requested these and was given a kettle which really should be thrown away as it has so much limescale in it, 2 paper cups and a wooden stirer, 2 sugar 1 tea and 1 decaff coffee, no milk sachets, so couldnt make a tea/coffee anyway. we had taken the softer pillows with us, the bed in this room was just as comfortable as the 1st. we came back after a day out where there had been thunderstorms and the ceiling had leaked and the corner of the bed and my PJs were wet. we were offered a room change but declined as it was late and we were too tired. also, in both rooms beware that there is no plug sockets next to the bed.
breakfast is plentiful, not the best food but enough to have something to set u up for the day. I didnt like that all the bread wasnt covered so u would often see little flies on it.
all the staff we encountered were lovely have no issues with that side of the hotel, but sadly I wouldnt stay here again and wouldnt recommend.
