Will return!

Our first trip to Sicily and would highly recommend Hotel Palermo! Just a short stroll to the local restaurants, bakeries, tourist attractions and more!
Staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and we particularly enjoyed the quiet location with access to the pool after a day of sightseeing.

Breakfast was bad and to few tables. Had to wait 20 minutes to get table.
Lot of insects (ants), got bitten several times. We did not get to separated singel beds like we had booked. Had to organize ourselves. One had to sleep without duvet for to night's before we got one. Bad view form windows. Lot of noise in the evening made it difficult to sleep.
Pool area was nice. Staff was nice.

Stay ruined by some ridiculous rules and room cleanliness.

I never complain but there are some issues that the NH internal quality inspectors need to deal with. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it.
So here are the pros.
1. Excellent location for the main city areas cica 15 minute walk plus a fabulous park and botanical garden nearby as well as the old port and that is it as far as I am concerned.
2. Staff. Very pleasant and helpful apart from the manager, who definitely was not and I felt had a lack of understanding that guests stay in a hotel not to have hassles.
3. Food at lunchtime was a decent standard. The bar staff were very helpful and the hospitality staff were very nice people.
But for these good points it would have got only 2 stars. Shame as I liked the location.
Cons
1. Small pool area and few numbers of beds which would not be so bad apart from the next con (2) and makes it ridiculous and overall left a very bad opinion about the hotel and its management.
2. If you leave your towel on a bed for more than 15-20 minutes they will remove it and your stuff and give your chair or bed away. This means if you go to the bar area and eat food there (which is right by the swimming pool and anyone can be seen in there by the lifeguard who patrols the pool area) ) your towel will be removed and you will lose your chair or seat. I have no idea what happens if you need to go to the toilet for more than 10 minutes in the privacy of your room. This rubbish experience happened twice to me. And many other guests experienced this as well and complained about it. The lifeguard insisted if you are swimming and leave your bed you will not lose your towel as he knows who is swimming in the pool. One of the guests heard this and said he was in the pool for 30 minutes and lost his bed. So that was a load of rubbish. How stressful is that when you are on holiday. You can occupy a lunch spot which you pay extra for eg. Lunch but you lose your spot at the pool!!! When I complained to the lifeguard he said he was only doing what he was told to by the front desk. (The first time it happened the lifeguard on duty that day apologised and found me a chair to sit on) When I complained to the hotel manager he said it was a rule and if someone leaves there bed they are not occupying it and therefore can lose it. I agree that some rule is necessary because they if you leave your towel on a bed and go out sight seeing you should not expect to find your towel there when you get back from your trip. I am sure they can devise a more sensible system. It doesn’t take much . But it totally ruined my relaxation at this hotel. I felt compelled to tell the lifeguard if I needed to go to the toilet or get a drink. I also felt the manager was very tunnel visioned after I complained. It’s a genuine grievance felt not only by me but several of the guests. I didn’t think the manager was capeable of serving a better system.
2. Bugs in bathroom . In the bathroom every night we found beetle type bugs on the floor. No idea what they were.
3. Lack of kettle in room. Had to go to bar to get hot water to make a hot drink. Was told they don’t gave any spare but the suites have them only.
3. Breakfast. I found this a bit limited. And often they would run out of certain produce like the fresh fruit which would sporadically be replaced usually after 20 minutes which suggested other they were understaffed in the kitchen or just not well organised
4. Dinner service: Bearing mind it is was 30 degrees centigrade at night, you are not allowed to sit inside the air conditioned enclosed restaurant area in the evening. But had to sit outside in the sweltering heat ! The reason I was told was that it was for breakfast only. And all the tables had been laid for breakfast. I don’t get it at all because in the morning the same tables were used outside and inside! So the inside tables could be relaid for breakfast if you used them for dinner as per the outside tables. stupid rule.
5. Aircon. The problem with the aircon is it is restricted to 19 degrees and does not go lower. This makes it still very uncomfortable at night as the room will heat up during the day and takes a very long time to cool down. The hotel does this to save costs. We also found that the cleaners unbeknown to us had opened a window letting the hot air initi the room.
6. Toilet condition. I think the toilet had not been cleaned properly and was dirty on the inside. I think it needed to be bleached properly.

Our stay in Palermo was very pleasant, partly due to the accommodation.

The room with a sea view is nice, the bathroom is small, and the shower is average. It has a pool with a bar and terrace, which are a plus, and are very enjoyable in the summer. Summer dinners in the garden are wonderful. The food is very good. One downside is that until the dining room closes at breakfast time, you cannot have a coffee... A 10 for Giovanni at the reception. This guy had several details that helped us feel comfortable. The worst part is the location, although that is what makes it an oasis in Palermo. A taxi to the center costs between 15 and 20 euros!!! A HORROR OF A GUESTHOUSE.

Nice hotel by the ocean near the city centre

We booked this hotel to be near the city centre and all activities without having to go into the hectic traffic when arriving by car. The hotel has a convenient secure manned parking for a fee.
Our room was s bit compact, but quite modern and nice with a beautiful ocean view from the balcony and a modern clean
bathroom.
There was a nice pool area with a pool bar.
The breakfasts buffé was great and could be enjoyed out in a nice terrace next to grass and palm trees.
We really recommend this hotel when visiting Palermo.
