Amazing, good value for money
Our stay at B&b dei Mercanti was magnificent! We booked on short notice, just 5 days in advance. Still , teh price was very reasonable. The apartment is located right in the historic centre of Salerno and is very close to all points of interest.
All the amenities were as expected and we even got a small italian breakfast, even if we did not pay for breakfast in our booking.
I would highly recommend this accomodation to anyone willing to visit Salerno, Naples or the Amalfi coast.

TO BE AVOIDED
The building is very scruffy, while the b & b is tidy but does not excel in cleaning both the shared area (kitchen and breakfast area) and the room. Very noisy, when someone from other rooms comes back you hear a lot of noise. Uncomfortable bathroom too small and walk-in shower ditto. Breakfast non-existent, according to the property there was a mix-up with the bar that provides the croissants, but I had to communicate the event no one from the management bothered to solve immediately and so I had to go to the bar and pay for breakfast out of my own pocket (already paid for because included in the Reservation) after insisting I was refunded the amount spent at the bar (while expecting the equivalent paid for breakfast at the property). For me the only positive thing is the position he is in. I would never recommend anyone to stay here. P.S. I was given some croissants in the afternoon to "remedy". Served at Breakfast the event could be solved in 10 15 minutes by sending someone, there are many bars in Salerno.

Scam! Never book here!
I don't know where to start! The horror began right after Booking Referral. I asked via Booking.com where the indicated parking spaces could be found. The answer came in Italian: Located in a ZTL zone, you can park there and there. Since I had explicitly selected parking spaces when Booking Referral, I asked again. The answer was the same again. After several inquiries, I finally received a Google Maps link and the unkind request to just park on the street. That was just the beginning of this horror stay.
We arrived on time at 4.30pm (bookin.com check-in times) and kindly asked to put our luggage in the hotel as we did not want to leave it in the car. We were then sent three different phone numbers within 30 minutes to contact. Finally, the owner opened the door to us by phone. We found the key in the room and were supposed to go to the jewelry store around the corner at 5:30 p.m. to pay the balance. However, the store was closed, and we waited another 20 minutes. After a phone call, the owner explained that the store was safely open – which was not true. After a while, the jeweller came, photographed our IDs and sent the pictures on via WhatsApp.
The main entrance key didn't work at first, and the jeweller's explanation didn't help much either. He was extremely unfriendly. When asked about breakfast, he said the owner would inform us. In fact, we had the choice between croissant with or without filling. These should be delivered at 8:30 a.m. But even after 9 a.m. there was no breakfast. On an empty stomach, we set off. In the evening we found breakfast in our room.
The bathroom had obviously not been cleaned during the entire stay. A towel I laid out after showering was so dirty afterwards as if I had wiped the streets of Salerno. In addition, there was only a single roll of toilet paper that was not refilled, although we demonstratively placed the empty roll on the breakfast device. In addition, we could discover various vermin in the bathroom at night.
In the communal fridge there was an aluminium tin on our arrival, which was still there even after the other guests moved out. And developed smells.
The highlight: My husband's backpack was ransacked and all 50-euro notes were replaced with play money! When we noticed this, we immediately contacted the owner. Her reaction was dismissive, she explained that she had been working with the staff for years and found it strange that we were making accusations. Nevertheless, we are sure that someone stole the money from the hotel. Not only was the money gone, but also zippers of the backpack were opened that we had never used before.
In the end we stopped our stay a day early. Of course, we went to the local police to press charges. The official there explained to us in almost perfect English that he spoke only Italian.

Horrible
Horrible experience, got a room infested with ants, another bed full of lice which contaminated one of our friends, making him buy medicine and ruining his vacation. And being naive, we asked for new sheets. They kicked us out of the apartment and accused us of destruction of property, asking us to pay the bills of sanitatisation and changing sheets. We had to come back from Positano (so our day was ruined) and look for new accommodation for the same day (obviously not cheap or convenient for 8 people). So avoid this place at all costs.

Ok, ma la ricevuta ?
Il B&B è molto curato e pulito ed ha una sua identità ben definita con le camere arredate secondo un colore preciso. La posizione è nel pieno centro storico.
Peccato che ci sia il solito "vizio" di non rilasciare ricevute e chiedere pagamento in contanti.
