A character hotel in the heart of Trieste
Great hotel in a very central location. The staff is friendly and discreet. A historic building reinterpreted in modern terms, the result of a commendable renovation that enhances the existing structure while giving the current hotel a strongly modern and dynamic character. The area on the ground floor resembles a contemporary reinterpretation of literary cafés: a meeting point between different cultures, a place for exchange, knowledge, and relaxation. The only veil of sadness is reading that the building was a bequest from Gregorio Ananian for the benefit of poor students... The hotel is now an excellent hotel, but how was it possible that a structure donated for poor students is now a 4-star hotel?!

Apprezziamo davvero tanto il parallelismo con i caffè letterari: è un'immagine che rispecchia l'atmosfera cosmopolita, rilassata e aperta allo scambio culturale che desideriamo offrire ai nostri Ospiti.
Comprendiamo anche la Sua curiosità riguardo alla storia dell'edificio. Gregorio Ananian è una figura di grande interesse nella Trieste dell'Ottocento: armeno di origine, ginecologo alla corte del Sultano di Costantinopoli, una volta giunto a Trieste, dedico' la sua vita alla beneficenza.
Per quanto riguarda il palazzo di Corso Italia, restaurato ad inizio del Novecento con l'apposizione della lapide a cui Lei fa riferimento, è importante precisare che la volontà del benefattore continua a essere rispettata. L'immobile, infatti, è stato storicamente concesso in locazione affinché le rendite fossero destinate, attraverso una fondazione filantropica, al sostegno di studenti e di persone bisognose. Ancora oggi l'edificio è locato con la medesima finalità, contribuendo così a mantenere vivo lo spirito dell'eredità di Ananian.

Good Hotel For Cruise Port Acess
We stayed at the Modernist before getting on cruise. The hotel is in a very good location with lots of shopping and dining within an easy walk. Its in a very nice section of Trieste that easily walkable to all of the major attractions including the Cathedrals, main square, and the Roman amphitheater which is right across the street. I would suggest this hotel for anyone looking for a nice place to stay to visit Trieste or heading for a cruise. Its also less expensive that the hotels right next to the port.

Very nice room. Hotel in great location, though it is on a very busy street. Valet parking nice but quite pricy (38 euros per day).

Overall this is a nice hotel. The big upside to me is that it is was very quiet and had the best sleep of this trip. Even though my room got quite warm at time because the AC was not on yet (traveled in May). The hotel is convenient and easily walkable to a number of city sites. The breakfast was fine and the staff quickly replaced items as they were depleted. The front desk was very helpful in making suggestions and recommendations. The bathrooms are tiny, even by European norms. I’m not a big guy but felt like I needed a shoehorn to get in/out of the shower. The security safe is comedically small—the Fiat Panda of hotel vaults—if you are traveling with a laptop or tablet no way in the world is it fitting.

mixed feelings
We stayed at the Modernist for the 4th time now and have always booked the hotel due to the soundproofed rooms and have always been very satisfied until now.
The tranquility in the rooms, the modern equipment and the very comfortable large bed has always let us sleep well.
Unfortunately, this was no longer the case, as to our great amazement a birthday party with DJ took place in the breakfast room from 8 pm.
I don't know if this is new in the offer from the hotel, but I would expect that if such an event takes place, you will be informed in advance and have the possibility of cancellation.
We then asked at night how long it would take and we were promised that it would be over by midnight at the latest, which was also kept. Perhaps having information in the lobby would have helped you adjust to this.
Should these events now be standard, we unfortunately can no longer book the hotel, which I think is a great pity because Modernist war was always our absolute first choice for Trieste.

We would like to clarify that the DJ set evening is a scheduled event, also advertised on our website in the Restaurant section, and it takes place once a week, with music playing until midnight sharp, in order to ensure it remains compatible with a proper night’s rest for our hotel guests.
Over time, The Modernist has become a reference point in the city as well: for this reason, we have chosen to offer a combination of food and musical entertainment, designed for the many local guests who visit us daily for an aperitif or informal dinner.
When our guests express specific needs, we always take care to assign rooms on higher floors, where the music is virtually inaudible, in order to ensure maximum comfort and tranquility.
We are sorry if, in your case, this information was not properly communicated, and we will certainly take your feedback into account to further improve our internal and external communication regarding such events.
