Recommended for solo travel
I used one for business. It cost about 10,000 yen including breakfast. One of us had enough Japanese-style room, hot spring public bath (although small) to relax. If you use one person, you only have a plan with breakfast, but when I learned on the website that you can order a catered lunch from one if you pick it up in store, I had a lunch box for about 2,000 yen. It cost 12,000 yen for a total of two meals per night.
Buying beer from the vending machine in the hotel after the hot spring and enjoying a lunch box alone while watching TV in your room is the best dinner for solo travelers. The catered lunch was delicious because it was a restaurant inn, and the breakfast (the banquet hall large hall) was very delicious.
One regret was that the women's and men's baths in the hot spring baths were not swapped, so I could not enjoy the garden baths. Why didn't we swap the breakfasts when we checked the gender ratio at the breakfast venue and found it was almost the same? The women's baths are not bad, but I wanted to take a bath in the garden because there was no openness to the open-air baths.

Traditional, historic luxury ryokan
We stopped here one afternoon and one night on our way to Tokyo. We had found info on the net and booked before. The inn is very old, some info said roots as long as 1000 years ago. The building also looks old, but rooms and public spaces are very clean and nice. There are steps though to some rooms, so old or disabled persons should bookrooms without steps.
The inn is in a quiet area of Akashi, no noise from outside in our room which was on the 3rd floor towards the street/road. We saw another room first, but changed to another with a bit more of a view. View was not impressive though, too many buildings between the inn and the Akashi Strait and the bridge. We could see a little part of it though.
Our room was more a suite with several rooms and a balcony section plus a wooden bathtub. Smoking was allowed in our room. We used the hot baths on the ground floor, one for women and one for men, this changes every second day so if you stay over night you can try both sections. They both have different baths and saunas and are very, very nice.
One of the reasons we chose to stay at the inn was their tako-yaki. We chose a quite large menu inclusing the tako-yaki. We got some 6-7 dishes, all excellent and served in our room. (We had more dishes than on the pictures). The food was delicious! Desserts too. Service quick and correct as it should be in a ryokan. The breakfast next morning served downstairs next to an indoor pool with a shark (!) was traditional Japanese and also excellent.
Of course a place like this is not cheap, quite pricey, but it is an experience in itself and all top quality. A walk to the strait with the changing lights on the bridge is 5-10 minutes if you are not busy eating all night.
It was a pleasure staying at the Hitomarukadan and I would love to come back one day.
Note: all menus etc in Japanese only and I did not meet any staff who spoke English, this might be a problem for foreign visitors without knowledge of Japanese. The website is also in Japanese only. I had no problem because my gf is Japanese. I suggest non-Japanese speakers who are interested in staying there to send an email first and ask if you can get understood.
You get clothes and slippers to wear inside the inn, but all slippers were about 4 sizes too small for my size 46 feet, lol.
Note: we travelled by train. A taxi from the station to the inn was a cheap, 10 minute drive.

어머니와 아카시를 여행하며 2박 3일을 머물렀습니다. 고즈넉넉한 다다미방과 온천이 있는 료칸입니다. 아카시역에서 도보 20분 미만, 가장 가까운 지하철까지 도보 5분이며 아카시 해안 공원까지 도보 3분으로 위치가 참 좋습니다.
특히, 나이드신 직원 분들이 많으신데 너무 너무 친절하시고 예의있게 대우해주셔서 3일 동안 정말 행복했습니다. 일본 현지인들이 많이 오는 곳이라 다른 언어로 소통은 어렵지만, 직원분들이 번역기를 사용하여 열심히 도와 주셔서 전혀 문제 없었습니다.
목욕탕은 노천탕도 있어서 3월 중순 여전히 추운 날씨라 노천탕을 즐기기에 제격이었습니다. 3일 동안 목욕만 네 번 했네요. 예쁜 유카타도 있어서 일본 여행 분위기 내기 참 좋았습니다.

일단 해당 료칸은 주로 일본인 고개들을 대상으로 해서 사실상 일본어 밖에 못 씁니다. (저는 일본어 사용했습니다)
위치는 히토마루마에 역 근처에서 걸어서 5분 이내에 있습니다. 방향은 일단 역 나와서 바로 오른쪽 사거리 기준 왼쪽으로 가셔서 그대로 쭈욱 직진하시면 히토마루카단(人丸花壇)의 표지판이 보일 겁니다. 거기서 좌회전 하세요.
일단 직원분들은 전부 굉장히 친절하십니다. 조식은 흔한 일본 가정식 같긴 했으나 상당히 공을 들인 느낌은 납니다.
2박 이상 예약하신 경우 1박마다 방 청소를 합니다.
칫솔과 샤워 타올 1장, 기모노?유카타? 도 제공됩니다.
샤워타올도 1박 마다 새 것으로 교체해주므로 그냥 쓰시고 욕실의 거울 앞에 두세요. 곱게 개놓으면 미사용으로 오해할 수 있으니 개지는 마세요. (아니면 사용한 것은 교체해달라고 말하시면 됩니다)
참고로 저는 永正（에이쇼）라는 3층 방에 묵었는데 시설 자체는 깔끔하기는 했는데 다 좋은데... 문제가 난방 효율이 좀... 그렇습니다. 다른 방은 모르겠는데 에이쇼의 경우 위에 구멍이 뚫려 있어서 시스텀 에어컨의 온풍이 어느정도 빠져나가고 그와 동시에 찬 바람이 안으로 들어와서 꽤 춥습니다. 특히 새벽에 ㅈㄴ 춥습니다. 잘 때 어느 정도 껴입고 주무시길 강력히 권고합니다. 이불은 두껍고 푹신하지만 그럼에도 춥습니다.
이 료칸에 한국인 관광객이 또 올지는 모르겠습니다만, 만약을 위해 제가 한국인 관광객 대상 안내문을 작성하여 료칸 직원분에게 전해 드렸으니 자세한 내용은 그 안내문을 참조하세요. (혹시 영어 잘 하시는 분이면 나중에 그 영어 안내문 좀 고쳐주세요. 그거 좀 이상함)

離明石車站有一段距 離，看Google導航定位步行12分鐘到達，還好沒用走的，明石車站搭計程車到飯店約8分鐘（不過隔天計程車離開旅館到車站是5分鐘）。
預約一泊一食（隔天早餐）兩人。
飯店看起來是有歷史的，房間都有翻修，飯店還有電梯不用怕行李很重搬移，不過入住時旅館服務人員會幫忙提行李。
日式房間空間兩人住覺得很寬敞，有個靠窗的桌椅區非常棒，晚上泡完溫泉喝小酒聊天非常愉快。
有些傳統或舊一點的溫泉旅館雖然現在已禁菸，但多少會殘留煙味，但這間旅館都沒有煙味，對於討厭煙味的人是好選擇。
早餐口味清淡，料理沒有特別突出，但算不錯吃。
溫泉方面，房間有附浴缸可以泡澡，也能到公共男女分湯泡澡，有三溫暖跟室內池與露天溫泉浴池，空間不大，不過當晚跟隔天早上去都只有我1人，算是獨享了整個溫泉了，溫泉很舒服，沒有味道非常喜歡，不過有鐵的成分不宜泡太久，不然皮膚會澀澀乾乾的。
入住的時提供服務的人員非常熱心與親切，不過退房時的人員態度明顯沒有這麼親切，不過幫忙叫計程車還是很感謝他。（另外早餐服務人員非常親切與有熱情，讓人覺得一早充滿活力真的很棒）。
飯店步行5分鐘可以到大葳海岸看海景與明石大橋，吃完早餐來散步賞景很不錯！
