The famous hot spring of Takayu Onsen where you can fully enjoy the cloudy sulfur hot spring and open rock bath
Take a day trip to Tamagoyu, a popular long-established inn among the Takayu Onsen known as Fukushima's Okuzashiki.
There is a free shuttle bus from Fukushima Station, which is easy to access without a car.
The famous open-air rock bath is a space surrounded by nature with an outstanding sense of openness, where you can fully enjoy the murky, freshly flowing hot spring water. The quality of the springs is acidic and sulfur-containing, and the type has a strong sulfur scent and a strong feeling that 'I came to the hot spring.' The water is slightly irritating but soft on the skin, making you want to have a longer bath.
After bathing, it warms to the core of my body, so that I don't sweat for a while. This is one of the most representative of Takayu Onsen, where you can enjoy the secluded feeling and authentic sulfur hot springs.

Living off it's former fame
local I was told this onsen was listed as one off the most popular in Fukushima ken last year. Well, not in my opinion.
- Rooms : large and reasonnably clean. Nothing really to say here
- Food : Again okayish. They do serve a nice selection of local mountain's plants though.
- Baths : Light water style, not my favourite so I am biaised here, they don't bring any strong memory to me.

It's not a bad idea to go straight to the source, but...
I've heard about it before, but it's my first time staying here. Of course, they are looking for an open-air bath fresh from the source. The image of an attached inn was easily betrayed by the five-story reinforced bar, but the Tamagoyu, which stands along the river, gives you a sense of the atmosphere of a bathhouse with a 150-year history of kayabuki, a former hot spring cure. Further down the river is the women-only open-air bath 'Sane' (which seems to be a private bath), and the open-air rock bath 'Tenkei no Yu' at the bottom. Hot water was pouring through the rocks, and the tub was filled with pale, murky sulfur springs, but it was a bit disappointing to see that the carpet looked like artificial grass. I think it's from the viewpoint of preventing falls, but it spoils the atmosphere. Still, the water is the best! There is also a large public bath 'Taki no Yu' and a cozy 'Senki no Yu' in the inner bath, and I enjoyed kakenagashi so much that my skin was tingling. The superior Japanese-style room of 13 tatami mats I used was relatively new and clean. Incidentally, the food for dinner is far from mundane, though there are a lot of ideas. In addition, the fresh-from-the-source water and the luxurious hotel-style lobby were mismatched, and the concept of a hot spring Inn seemed half-baked.

The quality of the hot springs is excellent!
It was my first visit in 30 years. It may have been more picturesque in the snowy season, but the journey would have been more difficult in that case, so it's a difficult decision. The strong smell of sulfur and the milky white water are the best. The large bath is on the 4th floor, and the open-air bath is on the 1st floor. It was a hassle to go back and forth, but it was worth it. The food was also delicious.

The food tastes too bad. Foodies should definitely avoid it.
Dinner in the cubicle I was expecting. It didn't look bad on the pre-order, but the moment I ate it???
It's kind of not good ... We went there with three of our foodies, but they all were quiet for a while.
Anyway, it tastes bad. If you are a foodie, this is an important meal along with the hot springs for the inn. I went out of my way to pay an extra fee to make it a private room, but it tastes bad anyway. The vegetables in the pot are almost as salty as they are used. He had ordered river fish and horse sashimi as a custom-made dish, but he seemed to have forgotten that too. I had it served in front of the rice, but only a little river fish = sardines. And the horse stab that came out when I was already losing hope, I thought this was ... forty-five. Not so much that it's not delicious, it's that it tastes bad! You will never come to this inn again. Only the quality of the hot springs is wonderful. I felt that I was just crouching at the quality of the spring. I gave a harsh opinion to make you aware of this. Also, it is an open-air rock bath with a good view, but there are too many people and it is a monkey mountain. For those of us who travel a few times a year because it's only a weekend, we've never had such a monkey mountain. Since it is a big inn, you have to make the bath wider or else you won't be satisfied with even the hot springs you are so proud of.
I don't want to have the same victims, I just find it "tasteful."
So, if you want to enjoy the good quality hot springs, you should stop by around noon when there are no guests for a day trip.
