Magic views at the Hotel de Yama

I really enjoyed my one-night stay at Hotel de Yama. The price felt reasonable for what you get. While the hotel is a little dated and could use a facelift, it didn’t take away from the experience at all.
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful throughout my stay. The views are absolutely stunning—easily one of the standout features of this place. The onsen and sauna were also excellent and a great way to unwind.
I had the traditional Japanese multi-course dinner, and it was incredible—definitely a highlight.
Location-wise, it’s perfect if you’re doing the Hakone loop, especially if you finish on the pirate ship. There’s a courtesy van that will pick you up and take you to the hotel, which makes things easy.
The Hakone Shrine Torii Gate is only about a 200-metre walk away. I visited at 8:00pm and again at 5:45am, and both times it was quiet with very few people around—well worth timing it to avoid the crowds.
For the price, location, and those unbeatable views, I’d definitely recommend this hotel.

Best location with views of Mt.Fuji and Lake Ashi. This is the place to spend your time gracefully in Hakone!

I stayed at the Odakyu Yama Hotel, which is located in a prime location on Lake Ashi, right next to Hakone Shrine, and it was a wonderful experience that exceeded my expectations.
Each room has a lake view, and you can enjoy the ever-changing views of the lake and the majestic Mt.
The "Azalea Bath" from my own source was of good quality, and I felt comfortable resetting the fatigue from the trip. Both dinner and breakfast were high-level, and I could choose French in the evening and Japanese set meals in the morning. The attraction is that you can enjoy your meal in a relaxing space with high hospitality.
Don't miss teatime at the newly renovated lakeside cafe Salon de l'Osage in April, or a stroll through the vast gardens where the colorful Azalea and Rhododendron Fair is held.
Access from Hakone Yumoto and Shinjuku is smooth, and hospitality is first-rate. This is a classic resort hotel that can be recommended for traveling with loved ones or rewarding yourself.

Charming Setting but Disappointing Value at Hotel de Yama

We stayed at this hotel with high expectations, but unfortunately it did not live up to them—especially considering the high price.
The property itself feels very outdated and old-fashioned. While some may find this charming, to us it felt more worn than classic, and not in line with what you would expect for the cost.
The dining experience was a major letdown. Breakfast was disappointing, lacking both quality and variety, and the high tea felt overpriced for what was offered. Given the premium pricing, we expected a much higher standard.
That said, not everything was negative. The onsen facilities were excellent and a real highlight of the stay, offering a relaxing and authentic experience. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated.
Overall, while the location and onsen are strong points, the outdated facilities and underwhelming food make it hard to justify the price. We left feeling that the hotel simply doesn’t deliver good value for money.

Mixed feelings.

In general the outside is in need of m food pressure wash. Between their outside restaurant and the main facility (reception, rooms) no lights for about 75 meters. Poor WiFi throughout the facilities.poor gluten free selections. Bacon was removed from my table because it “contained “ glutten

We loved our stay! The room was quiet and comfortable. We loved the public baths and breakfast (we didn't have dinner with our room). The staff was very welcoming. There's also a shuttle from the hotel down to the bus stop in Motohakone or it's an easy 15 min walk.
