The roller coaster accomodation

Awful place with very immature staff.
Seriously save yourself some money and avoid this place at all cost. You will not be refunded when you get to the shear disappointment as we were told no refunds.
The staff member:
My partner and I actually witnessed the below incident that another person has wrote, (the horror night) with the off duty staff member, after becoming aggressive and pushing one of the tourists. He had an altercation with a young Japanese lady who pushed the staff member away out the front of the venue as he was being inappropriate and asking for him to leave her alone, the staff member then ran into the bar very upset and swearing. He approached the tourist pushing him in the chest and arms yelling something about the bar. The tourist reached out to shake his hand and said sorry to the staff member again pushed the tourist. The guys friends then helped disguise the situation. As the staff member started yelling and bragging about going to get the tourist and his friend kicked out very immaturely.
We seen the altercation between the manager yelling at the tourists the next day and threatening to kick them out. Even though we believe they were not in the wrong and if anything acting in self defence.
We later spoke to the admin lady and she said this has happened before with these staff members harassing tourists.
Sorry to the guys below for not standing up for you after the actions from the manager and completely disregarding that 3 of you witnessed the incident and were explaining the truth to the matter. We were too frighten of getting kicked out without a refund as well. Hope you guys got your refund or were able to source better accomodation.
Accomodation:
We stayed across from the bar in the apartments where we had a bundle of issues ranging from awful water pressure as the shower was broken and trickling down barely enough to wash your hair.
Hot water was rare as I believe the showers must all run on the same system so if you wanted a hot shower you need to shower before 4pm otherwise expect the showers to be very cold.
Cheap heaters that have really bad smells. We were worried to run them at night incase of catching fire whilst we were sleeping.
The towels are like cardboard and we actually ripped one on my partners back when he was attempting to dry himself out the shower they were that old and brittle.
Beds quite hard and uncomfortable.
Excessive loud noise and parting from the bar is definitely annoying.
The staff sit out the front of the bar drinking, wrestling, talking loud, and worst of smoking cigarettes which flows through the hotel and appartments. Which you don’t usually expect on the weekends however this happened pretty much every night until late.
Bar food;
There is an excellent menu at the bar however they have it crossed out and only serve burgers and pizza unfortunately you can’t get any thing of the good side of the menu.
Chips are great!
I ordered a Hawaiian type pizza as I love pineapple on pizza “yes pineapple on pizza is a must haha” I went to have my first piece and noticed a very strange taste from the pineapple on the pizza it was fermenting and very past the used by date.
Hotel Break-feast:
Do not go spend money up the road at one of the other hotels or restaurants. It’s really bad. We walked in first day witness the so called edible food and never came back the whole week.
Washing machine/ Dryer:
There literally is one of each older than the 1900’s. We couldn’t get access to as it was consistently used we were able to wash once and then had to hang all our clothes in our room as the staff were drying the towels for the hotel.
In a positive note it is close to the mountain short 400m up a steep incline to get to the snow boarding/ ski area. But there is much better places closer. Without the drama.
Hopefully this has helped someone avoid these situations we witness or found ourselves in :)

Terrible

Avoid this place at all costs. As per previous reviews, it is more of an unprofessional staff youth hostel with an ego complex stemming straight from the manager herself. The manager, who is an older adult, is unapproachable and defends her staff's behaviour.
We witnessed an incident in the bar where one of her younger staff members was aggro after a girl turned him down. Members of our party helped diffuse the situation only to be called to reception for a meeting with the manager because her staff member told her we were the aggro ones!
She was very unprofessional and unpleasant. We attempted to tell her what had really gone on with her staff but she would not have it.
Other honourable mentions:
- Cigarette smoke smell in the transfer vans
- Staff smoke directly outside the door to reception almost 24/7
- Kerosene heaters leave a fuel smell as you attempt to take a breath of fresh air stepping into reception past the smoke haze
- Breakfast is a total mess. We had raw eggs mixed with boiled eggs.. pre-ground coffee instead of instant coffee.. 1 toaster machine for 100 people, takes about an hour to cook some toast
- They advertise great food at the bar when in reality, the side of the menu that has any exotic or interesting meals is never available as they just have their incompetent staff, who aren't really interested, doing the cooking. Therefore it's either a pizza or a burger
- The youthful staff spend their nights (not just weekends) blasting music, wrestling and yelling out the front of the un-managed bar until early hours of the morning, keeping their paying guests awake all night
- On top of the noise from staff, the walls in the apartments are paper thin, so don't expect any sleep as you hear your neighbours' every move through-out the night. Once you get to sleep, expect aching muscles in the morning from a zero support mattress and pillow
- Hot water flow and temperatures fluctuate while showering
- There is one washing machine and dryer for well over 100 guests, which staff also use on towels etc.
The only positive about the place is the guys in the rental shop. They have decent equipment and actually know what they are doing! We also had 1 very helpful receptionist.

Awful Experience

Beware when booking to stay at Hotel Madarao. We had an awful experience at this accommodation. The facilities are completely run down and staff are unprofessional. Despite calling itself a "Hotel", this is just a youth hostel.
A party in the bar/foyer area was allowed to continue until 2.30am in the morning. The walls of the rooms are paper thin and you can hear everything that is going on including the yelling, screaming and singing. Drunk people were sitting on the floor in the foyer and doors were slamming all night. After being unable to sleep, I had to go downstairs and ask staff what was going on as other guests were unable to sleep.
We decided to book accommodation elsewhere, and we were not refunded our money despite this completely unacceptable experience. The girl at the counter even admitted that what occurred was "not okay".
Other than that, the place is heated with kerosene which smells terrible. The common areas and hallways are freezing. The onsen is empty & shared bathroom facilities means showering in a room with other guests. Those facilities are not checked by staff because the heater in the men's room didn't even work. Do yourself a favour and don't waste your money.

A substandard 'Hotel' at a beautiful Location

Madarao mountain is a beautiful place but unfortunately this hotel was disappointing even for a budget hotel. During my stay, the staff tended to allow loud bass sounds to permeate the hotel for anyone sleeping near the bar until 3am beyond the midnight closing time. Further, the strong smell of kerosene heaters is inescapable throughout and the staff are temporary visitors with no real passion or customer service skills required for the running of any hotel establishment.
