Good value for money

On a weekday, I stayed in a private room with an open-air bath called Hotaka. The layout of the rooms varies slightly, but they are spacious and nice. If possible, I would like a window in the bedroom. I would also like water to be provided in the room. The food is generally delicious. The portions are generous. The large public bath is small. It's a good value inn, costing just over 50,000 yen for two people.

A deliberate inn

I was surprised at the service, which was not what you would expect from an old inn.
If they continue to treat me like this, Oigami Onsen will fall into disuse even more.
1. Front desk service
When I checked in, my name was written incorrectly on the paper, and when I pointed this out, they said it was exactly as it was input, as if it was my mistake. When I got to my room and checked the confirmation email from the inn on my cell phone just to be sure, my name was written correctly.
Just to be sure, I pointed this out to the front desk, and they said it was an input error by the staff, without any consolation or apology.
2. Plan with 100g Joshu beef sirloin steak
I was looking forward to dinner, but there were only four thin pieces of lean meat. Apparently steak is something you eat with a sauce similar to Genghis Khan. The amount was clearly less than 50g. I complained to the front desk when I checked out, as I couldn't get a solution from the foreigner who served me, but they gave me the excuse that it was cut steak (what's that?). It was an unfair representation that looked nothing like the photo on their website.
There was no honesty whatsoever and it was so bad that I will never return.
It was the worst accommodation I've ever been to and I was left with the feeling that I had been deceived.

not to be recommended

Outdated technique. We stayed in a Japanese style room on fifth floor. Room's heating though switched off, kept humming at a clearly audible level, impssoble to sleep unless your are deaf, plus made air extremely dry.Clerk offered another room on fifth floor, same thing. Room on 2nd floor offered, was very cold and smelled like cold smoke.Tried out that room, impossible to sleep as utterly cold PLUS loud, drunken Chinese parading up and down the aisle in front of the room. Hotel staff did NOTHING - typical Japanese, three monkeys - don't hear, see, speak.
Quality of food was ok, but service waslow level, like rushed through, for dinner ordered two more beers, waiter brought empty glasses...... no water offered, only upon request, everyone very hectic. For breakfast shabushabu was served, not really a Japanese breakfast dish.Wifi in room did not work. Overall impression: not to be recommended.

Best Bath and Excellent Food

We took the package that included a pass to visit 3 other onsens in the area. Verdict is Ginshotei has the best baths; one indoor and one outdoor. Water is hot and smooth. Room was large nad clean.
Dinner and breakfast were excellent and very substantial.
The Fukiware falls is located 4km away. We took a leisurely walk and was rewarded by the most delicious apples I have ever eaten from a stall by an apple orchard at the 1st traffic lights. It's late Nov and the tress were laden with red apples. Now I understand why the Okinawa gentleman I met last Nov in Magome had travelled all the way to eat apples in Niigata. The falls are beautiful and a visit is highly recommended.
