Clean and bright and modern

Nice bright reception area to sit around in .. though very draughty when doors open. Had washing and drying machines as well as a little shop. Rooms were comfortable with en-suite facilities. Heating very effective and a tad too warm. Although staff spoke little English we communicated by way of google translate very effectively. Dinner and breakfast we’re beautifully presented ..fusion of a Western/Japanese. 5 minute drive to harbour area or good 20 min walk.

Barred from having breakfast!

The hotel itself is actually quite good, but the reason for my low rating is because our group was barred by the hotel from having breakfast despite it being included in the room rate.
No explanation was given, but it transpired there had been a problem with a previous group.
I feel it’s deeply unfair that we were penalised for another groups behaviour, and suffered because of it.

Decent accommodation

Stayed here for one night while up to see the Stellar eagles from a drift ice breaker.
The rooms were fine - dinner fine - nothing special one way or the other. Rausu is off the beaten path so fine == very good in this context.
Wasn't sure what to expect out this way - we had kaiseki dinner which I don't care for and didn't eat.

Good simple hotel with nice food

Located a 5 minutes drive from the harbour and close to the national park visitor centre, this is a good, clean traditional hotel / ryokan with private facilities and good onsen.
Very tasty Japanese dinner and breakfast, with friendly staff who we managed to communicate with through Google translate!
A shop sells snacks and a few souvenirs if you fancy them.
If you don’t have your own car / rental then please note this is a one taxi town!! So getting to the sunrise boat cruise could be a challenge. Otherwise very good place to stay.

authentic small town 3-star hotel

stayed for 1N in this authentic 3-star hotel. nice rotemburo onsen, with smelly sulphuric water and tree leaves falling into the bath. dinner was so-so, nothing special about the room either, had a view of the road 334. long corridors with crickets chirping and vending machines humming at night are somewhat lynch-esque. very good for value for money, especially if you need to catch a whale cruise from Rausu early in the morning.
