Pleasant, convenient hotel.
The location is very convenient: opposite Family Mart and one minute from the beach and bus stop. The view of Engetsu island is about a 500 metre walk heading right from the hotel.
Things to be aware of in Shirahama: the beach will be packed during the summer but it is very quiet after 5pm and out of season. There is no shade on the beach but you can hire parasols. Even in season, a lot of the restaurants close early (one place told us last orders was 20:30!) so plan where you are going to eat during the day. Most of the onsen close at 22:00 which is very early for Japan. Shirahama does have a feeling of a place in decline: I guess the budget flights to Okinawa have slashed beach tourism in the area.

Smelly room
However, there is no staff at check in, and you have to use a code on a locker to get your key. They CLAIM that they send the code, but in reality they didn't so I had to make a roaming international call to get it. The carpets in corridors and the room were stained, a lot. The room had a very musky dirty odour.

quite alright for the night
In a word - nice place, simple, clean and friendly, but do not expect anything beyond a place for the night.

Nice hotel close to the beach
The rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable. The staff was professional and very helpful.
The hotel is perfectly situated (only a few meters from the main beach and a public onsen) and offers good value for money. There is no restaurant at the hotel but there are several eating options nearby.
