Tatsuno is home to Kaisekiyado Shiori. Himeji Castle and Shonenji Temple are local landmarks, and the area's natural beauty can be seen at Ayabeyama Bairin Garden and Plum Tree Park. Mitsu Roadside Station and Tegarayama Central Park are also worth visiting.

Just perfect

The conclusion first:
A wonderful ryokan in a fantastic location right by the sea, friendly staff, great authentic food and a lovely onsen/bath.
We chose a ryokan, an authentic Japanese guesthouse, for our last part of the trip to Japan. The location is simply fantastic. The sun sets in the sea right in front of the room.
Some would call it romantic. :-)
The rooms are typical of a ryokan.
Large room with a view of the sea, covered with tatami mats.
You sleep on futons on the floor.
Very nice.
The service is unique.
You feel like you are a king.
We were well looked after and served from start to finish.
No English was spoken, but thanks to Google Translate it worked perfectly.
A dream for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine.
Both breakfast and dinner were great.
We didn't know what we were eating because of the lack of translation, but that didn't bother us.
There is a great onsen/public bath in the house with a view of the sea.
That was the most important thing about this stay for us.
Simply perfect.

A bath with a great view

This place is not far from Himeji and they pick you up from the nearest train station, which is convenient. However, there is absolutely nothing to do and see around this place. I was hoping to take a walk on the beach but was told that it was only open for people who have a license to catch shell fish. So no walk on the beach. The view is definitely nice with some islands in distance and that's what pretty much you can see at this place. The bath has the same nice view but is quite small. Luckily on the day we stayed there were not many guests so we were able to have a relaxing time in the bath, but when it is full, I wonder what it is like. Both the dinner and the breakfast were nicely presented and served in a separate, private room (which means no interaction with other guests at all as the place doesn't have a communal area such as a lounge room), but I didn't think it was so special (probably I am spoilt), especially when we paid for an upgraded meal. I think this is a good place to stay if you are after a quiet place with nothing to do, and a nice view and Kaiseki meal (but it is probably not worth paying extra for an upgraded meal).

Pleasant seaside ryokan with great food

Shiori has a great views of the sea, and prides itself in serving high quality kaiseki dinners. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Like all other ryokans, it has large public for its guests, and both the male and female baths are on the top (3rd floor) looking out the sea.
It was serene to listen to the waves crashing into the shore, and our stay at Shiori was one of the highlights on our trip.
Side note: although Shiori is right next to the shore, the beach has admission fees and only opens during the day.

波の音を聞きながらいい時間を過ごせました。
