Lovely stay in Grouville

I’d recommend this hotel. The bedrooms are kept clean and lovely bathroom towels. We had a family room as we booked late. Our room overlooked the gardens and swimming pool and the surrounding countryside. Reception provided us with a fan , which was essential as it was a heatwave.
Breakfast is excellent with good quality buffet cooked breakfast, cereals, fruits, yoghurt and pastries.
We ate in the dining room for dinner twice. It was delicious and reasonably priced.
There is a heated swimming pool and it was perfect for the hot weather. It’s cleaned daily- so a pre breakfast swim wasn’t possible due to cleaning- but not an issue. Towels are provided for the pool from reception.
We also played tennis on the hotel’s court- just take care as there’s a small pothole on one side. Tennis was free to use.
The staff are friendly and very polite and accommodating- really made the stay enjoyable.
Gorey harbour is 20/25 mins walk from the hotel- Gorey is lovely and has a castle. There’s a bus shelter no more than 5 minutes away all from the hotel( in front of the Royal Jersey Golf Course). Buses to St Helier and Gorey Pier go from there.
We bought a day liberty bus pass a few times and travelled around the island.
We’d definitely return to the hotel.

Quite a nice stay but needs a few adjustments.

Quite a nice stay but needs a few adjustments.
Pool needs the filter turning up as me and another gentleman took the pond scoop and cleaned the surface. There was a pond critter on one of my passes.
The room could do with a fridge as the one in the library was turned of, with food in it.
The room could benefit with aircon as the room air was still even though we had the door open.
Perhaps a ‘do not disturb’ sign.
Safe or lockbox is a must and there are plenty of places to bolt them down.
Could not see a disabled ramp or any for of scissor lift, so can see if this place
This was the negative, now for the positive.
The room was kept clean most days and the cleaners had a smile for you.
Our room had patio doors which went straight to the car park so we didn’t have to got thru the hotel in our wet swimming gear.
There is a kettle and tea/coffee making.
The bathroom was our own and had a good shower.
The menu gets changed each week and a fair selection of food. This was an awesome meal and full of flavour.
The room gets turned most days and they are quite thorough.
The meals we had were hot and fresh and the menu changes once a week.
The breakfast was mainly self service and the selection was always the same. Unfortunately the mushrooms were a bit mingin.
There is a bus stop outside and slightly up or down the street. Your not looking for a pole, your looking on the floor for the white line, the word BUS and a random number. TBH the bus was very efficient and we may leave the car back at home next time. There is an app to download.
A small trip will take you to St Helier or Gorey which offers more choice to eat, drink or tours.
Recommend to others; definitely.
Return again; we need to do the west next time but definitely will be back.

unhappy stay

The hotel is nice but there is a tension the the air. As we arrived we were told could not eat there as we had not booked. Nobody seems really happy to help or go out of their way. We asked for packed breakfast but that was not possible. The lady at reception told us she would leave some fruit for us to pick up in the morning but nothing was left in the fridge. It is not a relaxed atmosphere here. Rules are rigid. Would not stay here again.

Dire !

Stayed for one night while on the island for business.
Travelling frequently in the UK and Europe on business for more than 30 years I long ago established that if a hotel has a tatty sign outside inside isn’t going to be great.
And so I’m afraid is the case with the Beachcombers Hotel which is a fine example of neglect. The entrance and lobby is unimpressive with something of a Travelodge feel about it.
My room on the ground floor was relatively clean however the furniture and furnishings were from the 1980s. The security chain on the door was broken and inoperative which didn’t bother me too much, but had I been a solo female guest this may have caused significant concern .
The bathroom featured a rusty mirror, rusting soap tray in the shower, and strange and worst of all a bath shower mixer which defied all attempts over 15 minutes of trying to set the shower to a comfortable 35-40 degees Celsius. It was either scalding hot or freezing cold. When you adjusted the temperature controls water diverted randomly to the bath filler rather than the shower and at times there would be cold water coming from the shower and very hot water coming from the bath filler at the same time. The whole thing was not only inconvenient but dangerous!
To the rear of the hotel is a modest car park which was partly filled with construction rubble there is also a small outdoor pool and tennis court.
With an outdoor pool and tennis court, albeit both needing some attention, there is the potential for this to be a really nice hotel. Sadly at the moment it is poorly maintained and very dated. I most certainly would not stay here again - even if the price were half of what I paid.
You will notice that I haven’t commented on the food. Given the general state of the rest of the hotel, I didn’t think the restaurant was worth risking.

Would not give it two stars

We had a very bad experience: dirty pool and loungers in the evening, pads as well, very small rooms, and upon closer inspection, not very clean anywhere except for the reception area. In the evening, despite the World Cup, there is no more white wine at the bar; a little goody like nuts with the drink - no such luck.

Very good location
