Osero Lodge & Australken Tours - recipe for a wonderful safari.
This is the third time that we arranged a Kenya safari with Zippy at Australken, and it was a great success. We traveled with eight other friends from the US in two Land Cruisers, driven by Symon and Martin, great knowledgeable guides. Lodges on our trip were well chosen by Zippy, and Osero Lodge adjacent to Maasai Mara was most memorable. We were treated to a gourmet experience by Chef Godfrey and made so welcome by Agnes. The tented rooms were wonderful, and the dining area looked out onto a lawn often with baboons and guinea fowl present. The photographic opportunities were outstanding - we toured through Tsavo East & West, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru and Maasai Mara. On day trips from Osero, Maasai Mara offered numerous lions, massive hippo numbers in the Mara river, cheetahs and a wide variety of birds.

Wonderful Stay at Osero Lodge – Masai Mara
We stayed at Osero Lodge as part of our Masai Mara safari, and we had a fantastic experience from start to finish.
We were travelling from Nairobi and were originally expected to arrive around lunchtime, approximately 1:00pm. However, due to several stops along the way, we were delayed. Our guide contacted Osero Lodge in advance to let them know we would be arriving late and asked if they could still arrange lunch for us when we arrived.
They were absolutely brilliant. As soon as we arrived the lovely receptionist Agnes took us straight to the restaurant and told us to have lunch first before completing our check-in. It was such a thoughtful and welcoming touch after a long journey.
Osero Lodge is a beautiful, peaceful and very well organised camp. Every member of staff we met was incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. They genuinely looked after us like we were part of their own family. The food was excellent.
One of the nicest touches and something we really appreciated, was the hot-water bottles. The evenings and nights in the Masai Mara can get quite cold, and when we returned to our room after dinner, we found hot-water bottles already placed in our beds to warm them up before we went to sleep. Such a simple thing, but it made us feel incredibly well looked after.
I honestly can’t remember everyone’s names, but I want to say a huge thank you to every single member of staff from the restaurant team to reception and everyone working around the camp. You were all amazing.
Osero Lodge has a wonderful location, a peaceful atmosphere and fantastic staff, and it was a pleasure staying there during our safari.
If you’re considering visiting the Masai Mara, I would definitely recommend Osero Lodge. We loved our stay and would happily return!

Peaceful Stay Close to Maasai Mara
The staff at Osero Lodge are very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Peter was especially nice; he took the time to speak with us, showed genuine interest and helped make our stay feel more personal.
The accommodation is a spacious safari tent equipped with the basic necessities, including both a shower and a bathtub. The tent is private, comfortable and surrounded by trees and nature. However, the lighting inside the tent is quite low, particularly in the evening. The lodge is very quiet, making it ideal for a peaceful and relaxing stay.
A member of staff escorted us to our tent, which made us feel safe, especially when walking around the property. The lodge has a restaurant, lounge, swimming pool and an open viewing area where animals may sometimes be seen. It is located on the outskirts of Maasai Mara and close to a park entrance, making it convenient for game drives.
Wi-Fi works only in the common areas, such as the restaurant and lounge, and is not available inside the tents.
The food is tasty, but the menu is set and slightly limited, as guests mainly choose only the main course. The waiting staff are very friendly, attentive, and provide very good service.
The lodge was also kind enough to pack breakfast and lunch for us to take during our game drives in Maasai Mara, which was very convenient and appreciated.

Beyond Expectations
Osero was the last of six lodges during my two week Kenya safari. The other five were average to good. Osero was the best overall lodge experience. As other reviews have noted, the staff was exceptional. The tent I stayed in had a spacious bathroom with separate shower and tub. The chef greeted our group with the proposed meals of the day and asked for any modifications. He delivered wonderful four-course culinary dining events that I was not expecting at a tent camp - the food and dining was fabulous.
As noted in other reviews, WiFi was not available at the tent location and was only available in the reception/dining area. This was a positive for me as I was able to enjoy the peacefulness.
Do not hesitate on this lodge. It made my trip memorable and enjoyable. Other than all of the animals and sites I saw in the parks, this was next best experience of my Kenya trip!
