Al Qalaa Hotel in Saida

Located on the water's edge just steps from the old souk, the room of Al Qalaa are charming and cozy. The rooftop restaurant overlooks the Crusader castle and has the old feel of Saida. Rooms cost around 100 USD depending on the season.

Wonderfully set old hotel with great views of the sea castle.

This is only an adequate hotel in many respects. The breakfast was only adequate, the bathroom was adequate, the heating was adequate. But the room was clean and the sheets were freshly laundered. One of the taps wobbled a bit but there was loads of hot water. The WiFi worked, too.
The building is a historic site that you might pay to see and instead you get to sleep in its stone walled, high ceiling rooms. The view from our room, and from the roof terrace, was of the Crusader sea castle and the port. The best view in town. There is also a first floor lounge with the same views.
The hotel stairs out lead you straight into a real, living, breathing souk that you will probably get lost in and not care. If you've come here to experience the old city of Sidon, you won't be disappointed.
The staff we dealt with were all polite and helpful. They brought us breakfast in our room on one day, as they felt the roof terrace was too cold that morning, and to the roof terrace on the second. I did have go to reception to order it. The hotel organised a taxi to Beirut at a good price. All the staff smiled and said hello when we met them. They didn't all have great English but they had enough and it was much better than my Arabic.

Avoid at all but most bottom budget of costs.

We booked here and ignored the reviews here. Bad mistake.
A beautiful place hideously disfigured by a a row of tacky tents that serve as the meals area (and street trade .. fair enough of course..) and ravaged by time. The owners have done the bare minimum (if that) to keep up with the degradation of this truly remarkable place. This is a real shame as with proper management this would be a really great place to stay ansd base yourself for a time in Lebanon, assuming you could ignore the rusty industrial debris that is park on the “historic” quayside!
Specific issues..
1. Wet and damp, with incredible water ingress and warped doors and windows .. pretty basic?
2. Draughty.
3. Truly haphazard electrical wiring (to the ramshackled power sockets, lighting and wheezy aircon) that will kill some careless user.
4. Almost absent “staff”, except the guy who was quartered on the couch in the lobby!
Suffice to say we did not stay our intended 2 weeks but got out the next day.
If this was only asking something like a quarter the asking price it would be reasonable.
As it is, trust the reviews here and run, flee, save yourselves!...

Not up to expectations

I couldn´t agree more with the reviews. Though I was disappointed, considering what I paid for 2 nights there. Location is great, and rooms have nice views, though a bit cold in the Winter. The breakfast did not exist, as no communication existed on the reception, either... We complained and got money back from the breakfasts, but were very disappointed with the lack of willingness to help us at the reception, whether it was to order a taxi or to ask for a quick info.

Dirty hotel

Dirty hotel and not good service. The room was not clean and the sheets have not been changed. The room rate is high compared to was is offered. This is not to be repeated. This is the second hotel we tried in Sidon that is not good...
